Anchorage market in the rain

I arrive in Anchorage next Saturday May 30 and depart on Monday June 2. My plan was to spend part of Sunday at the weekend market but rain is predicted. Is the market rain or shine? Or do I need to make other plans.

Yes, the market is rain or shine. Usually, when rain is predicted here in southcentral it is not an all day rain (although last Saturday certainly was!).

 

I wanted to comment on an earlier poster's comment about it not looking like a "farmers' market" a couple of weeks ago...since we are just now planting things, we can't have farm produce so early in the season! To make the market worthwhile, many other types of items are included.

Great! My other plans for the day are the Ulu factory and if I have the time and energy, the Native Herritage center. How does that sound to you?

Sounds great, but if I could only do 2 of them, I would definitely put the Native Heritage Center above the Ulu Factory (but that's me...everyone has different priorities).

I live to shop! And cooking is a hobby. I am boycotting all goods made in China so finding locally made items for gifts is a priority. If I find stuff that meets my needs at the Market, I will take your advice.

The market is wonderful in any weather. I have heard that "real" Alaskans don't believe in umbrellas, but they come in mighty handy for the rest of us.

What port? Because to my knowledge no ships are coming into Anchorage this summer so if you're coming in to Whittier you're looking at about 1 1/4 hours drive if Seward 2 1/2 hour drive just to get to town.
