restasured Posted October 10, 2004 #1 Share Posted October 10, 2004 The NCL site shows the Sea has a Texas Hold'em Poker table. We called NCL and was told there is not one. Does anyone know if there is one on the Sea.
Lib0007 Posted October 10, 2004 #2 Share Posted October 10, 2004 I would be curious about the Spirit also. If there is one, I may not see my husband for 9 days ;) Does anyone ever get together a poker game in the card room? He would enjoy this and may not lose our money as fast! coka Posted October 10, 2004 #5 Share Posted October 10, 2004 I hear passengers are getting their own groups together and playing in the library or somewhere else on the ship! I am sure it is a matter of time before the industry sees this as a "must-have" table! Coka
johnql Posted October 10, 2004 #6 Share Posted October 10, 2004 With the growing popularity of poker, I'm sure all of the cruise lines are considering putting in a poker table or two. However, as far as I know, no ship currently offers poker -- real poker, that is, with players playing against each other in games such as Texas Hold 'Em or Stud, etc. I'm not counting games such as 3 Card Poker or Pai Gow Poker, where players are playing against the house with a built-in house edge. The problem for the cruise lines is figuring out whether it's just a fad and whether it's worth it to put in a poker table, which takes up a lot of space and would probably have to replace a number of slot machines or a couple of table games. They'll have to crunch the numbers and see whether there's more profit in it. In the meantime, I think it's a good idea for people to try to get their own informal games going. Who needs the house to take a cut out of each pot anyway?
vette Posted October 10, 2004 #7 Share Posted October 10, 2004 We got off the Sea a couple of weeks ago and there was a Poker Table there that was always full. I don't know if it was Texas hold em or Stud, but there definately was a poker table. Vette
cruising_kenboy Posted October 10, 2004 #8 Share Posted October 10, 2004 This is fabulous new information. I'm on it in 9 weeks, and I know I'll be putting in my time at a Holdem table if it is available. I was almost thinking of bringing my own chips and trying to work up a game myself. I have myself and two other players traveling with me already.
Lib0007 Posted October 10, 2004 #9 Share Posted October 10, 2004 Would there possibly be poker chips in the card room to use . . . if not, my husband would like to bring his also to get up a game. What's the best way to get the word out about getting a game together? I guess his fellow poker fans will be in the casino so he could ask around there. kchartsf Posted October 11, 2004 #11 Share Posted October 11, 2004 Just got off the Sea on Saturday 10/9 and yes, they did have a texas hold'em table going most of the time. Frequently in the casino there were announcements that the table was open, so yes it is available. Good luck and have a great time.

kchartsf Posted October 11, 2004 #13 Share Posted October 11, 2004 I'll ask my husband. He may know. He spent LOTS of time in the casino, but plays primarily craps.

kr1st1nm Posted October 13, 2004 #15 Share Posted October 13, 2004 My husband brought his chips on the Celebrity Horizon in April and had organized games in the card/game room almost every day! We started a group from our cruise critic party and it grew from there!

derbyc Posted October 27, 2004 #17 Share Posted October 27, 2004 For all of you out there receiving these mixed messages, let me spell out the facts. Norwegian Sea has a texas hold'em table onboard since 8/21/04. In November they will add a second table. Norwegian Dawn (1), Norwegian Dream (1), Norwegian Star (3) will also add texas hold'em tables in November. They will all be located within the regular casino with the exception of Norwegian Star which will have 3 tables in a room adjacent to the casino. Commissions vary based on the table limits. Subject to demand the stakes could be $1/$2 or $2/$4 or $3/$6 or $4/$8 or $5/$10. Other cruise lines occassionally run private poker tournaments which are generally for invited guests only but to the best of my knowledge none have a regular table open to the general public other than NCl who as stated above will shortly increase the number of vessels on which you can play. Enjoy!
