Kauai Luau recommendations!

Our family will be on Kauai for a week in August. We are looking for a great luau to attend. Of course we enjoy good food and entertainment. Can anyone compare the luaus offered on Kauai? I know the best Luau's recommended are on Maui but the entire family will only be together on Kauai. If you have been to different luaus can you tell me why you prefer one over the others? Thanks so much!

Im a huge advocate for the Sheraton Kauai (Poipu) luau... It was pheonomenal. Ocean setting. Grounds were perfect. Entertainment was great. Open bar. Food was EXCELLENT. No imu pit though...

but its exactly what i imagine a luau to be like...

I love the thought about the ocean setting. That is the drawback to the Smiths Luau. I'm landlocked in Kansas the rest of the year and I hope to spend every minute I can on the beach or near it! :D Did any of the Luaus seem overly large (like a cattle call) or did there seem to be a reasonably smaller crowd?

Hi, We have not been to Hawaii yet, but have a trip planned for next April. I have been reading the posts on luaus. The one that stands out to me for all the Hawaiian islands is the "Luau Kalamaku". I'm not sure where it is on the island. Has anyone heard anything else about this luau? It is supposed to be the best in Hawaii, and very authentic.

You know in August you will probably be ok, but those ocean settings in Kauai can quickly become convention room settings if the weather is rainy. I know because we have experience this. They always have a contingency plan (unlike the old lahaina luau that goes rain or shine) so you may want to confirm when you make your plans.

Just wanted you to be informed so you are not disappointed. :)
