Age question?

My daughter and I will be cruising in March. She will be 16 at that time. I'm sure she's too young to gamble, but will she be old enough to get into the casinos just to watch? How about the dance clubs (or discos or whatever they're called today!)? It will be just the two of us and I don't want to hang out by myself. Besides, I don't know it I'd want my teen daughter running around by herself either!!!:)

My book says guests under 18 are not allowed in the casino. And get this.....under 16 not premitted in the spa. So a 15 1/2 year old can't get a massage? Don't get that!

As far as the casino goes...does she look 18? Perhaps she can just watch you and keep you company. They won't be "carding" people to get in.

There will be some scheduled activities for the teens on board. They even have their own disco parties. She may possibly meet some kids she'd like to hang out with at the beginning of the cruise. That was the case when I took mine crusing two years ago. Hopefully, that is what will happen again since I'm going with my 17 year old daughter in March.

On our big family cruise in August, my 16 year old son and 17 year old nephew were their grandfather's constant companions in the casino at the slots. No one ever said a word to them. On a cruise almost two years ago, said 17 year old nephew walked into the casino while it was busy, sat down to play a slot and won $100. He took his money and left.

As for the disco, after 11:00 PM, it is adults 18 and over. On the August cruise, my son was in there every night with my 25 year old cousin and her cabinmates. Only once did my son get stopped. The group turned around, gave my son a beer bottle to hold and walked in another entrance without getting stopped.

They may have rules, but they are not always strictly enforced.

They're enforced by neither Carnival nor parents, apparently...

The casino staff knew they were there. They could have asked them to leave at any time and didn't. They weren't running around causing problems or taking over the adult only pool and hottub. Just like in Las Vegas, they give some latitude when it comes to under age people in casinos.

On several occasions, while playing at tables near the perimeter of the casino (adjacent to promenade walkway), I have seen dealers ask teen children to stand back - move near the edge of walkway - typically several feet. Usually they had been hanging around a parent - watching over their shoulder...

One never knows... enforcement is sporadic... with this and many other Carnival "rules/guidelines"...

Vegas does not give latitude with underage people in casinos. They have always been very strict about underage people in the casino. As a matter of fact, at the Bellagio, if you're under 18 you're not even allowed to walk thru the hotel unless you are accompanied by an adult.

As far as underage kids in the casino on a ship....I think if they look 18, or if they are with a parent, they don't say much. But it can happen that they ask them to leave.

You will have a great time with your daughter. I have cruised with mine every year since she was 16....another one planned this Dec. Be prepared though....she may well meet up with other teens her age and want to hang out a bit with them.

My daughter and I always see the shows, comedians and karaoke together. No one will say one word about her being in the casino with you as long as she stays in the background. I also doubt anyone will say a thing about her being in the disco WITH you, unless she looks very young for her age. I'm sure you'll enjoy the islands together too.

HAVE FUN and don't worry...you both will have plenty to do!!!
