Disney V/RC or Princess

Recommended Posts

Has anyone taken a cuise w/children on these lines and thought one better than the other and why, taking into consideration the price. Is Disney worth the extra money?

I haven't cruised on Disney, but from what I've heard they wrote the book on kids programs - two friends of mine were on the Magic for their honeymoon and said they could definitely tell that line is geared toward families with children.

From what I've read and seen about RCI's kids' program, they say it is a close second to Disney's. Still lots to do, but the ships aren't as totally geared towards families.

Others have posted here that their kids thought Princess's kids programs were a little on the boring side.

I cruised Disney Magic 7 day Eastern. Took my 6 y.o. son and wife. We had a great time. He could use the Oceaneers Club or stay in the pool. He enjoyed everything and if you are traveling with children they will love the whole Disney idea. There were a lot of children, but I didn't find I was tripping all over them. We traveled in January during school, so that may have had something to do with it. I would suggest Disney for going with children but do not have any other cruise lines to compare with yet. We are planning a return trip in January 2006 with my son and some friends with children to see the Western side. Get a verandah. It's worth it.

I've done 2 cruises on Disney and we had a wonderful time! The second time, my kids didn't even go to any of the children's programs (we were only on a 3 day cruise and they wanted to be with us) and they were still fully occupied and we all had a ball.

I don't begrudge the extra money I spent on DCL because everything was top notch (food, entertainment, atmosphere, ship, service, activities, cabin). On top of all that, you get that Disney "magic" that just makes it all the more wonderful.

I'm going on my first RCI cruise in a few weeks and I'm sure I'll love that too. But I still can't begrudge the extra cost of Disney because both cruises were a fabulous experience! In fact, we booked for a 7 day in October! And my kids (DS 11, DD 9) and DH feel the same way too!

Thanks for the quick responses. I was thinking of taking DGC and DC on our 30th anniversary trip. Trying to get some opinions before we decide to do anything.

We cruised Eastern Caribbean on the DCL Magic in August of 2002. It was wonderful, lots of kids onboard, but we never saw them! My son was 16 at the time, and their teen program was fabulous--he had such a great time!

We're cruising RCCL/Mariner next year because he'll be 19 and they have the most to offer for 19 year olds. DCL lacks there

If he weren't too old for their kids program I'd stick with DCL though.

We've been on the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder, both wonderful ships. If you children are pre-teen and younger I think the Disney cruise would be ideal. Disney does a outstanding job keeping the children active and happy. Never a dull moment. However, now that my daughter is a teenager she loves the Voyager ships because of all the activities they have. What ever you choose you will enjoy it.
