Deck Two Opinions needed!

Recommended Posts

Hubby and I rolled the dice on our first RCCL cruise with an Oceanview Guarantee and I think we lost! We were assigned Cabin 2306 - which from what I can tell, is the lowest deck there is!! Are we going to be miles away from the activity???

Any advice appreciated!

Thanks!

Karen

P.S. - I am also a little annoyed with our TA. I emailed her over a week ago looking for the price for a balcony upgrade, and we never heard back from her! I am sure by now all the balconies are gone!

We did the same on our Splendour cruise coming up this weekend. I am not worried about it though because we had the same on the Voyager last year and it was fine. We didn't feel like we were far away from anything and it was nice and quiet when we did want to get away. I think you'll be fine. Just think of the extra money you'll have to spend since you save it on your room.

Hi, We haven't been on a low deck on RC, but have on other lines. I actually prefer being on the lower decks. There's no problem about being away from things, 'cause you just hop on the elevator. Sometimes, it's easier to get off at the ports because usually the gangways are on the lower decks. I think it seems quieter, too.

According to the Travelocity web site there are still a lot of balconies available for your sailing and believe it or not they are listed at a lower price then the category I Oceanview staterooms on deck 2! This may be more then what you currently are at but it is worth checking out. Good luck and let us know how it comes out!

Hi,

I have sailed on deck 2 and 3. It is very quiet, and there is very little motion felt when the ship is sailing. It is the same size cabin as other decks with that category.

An elevator, or stairs, will take you anywhere no matter what deck you are on.

I always liked it there.

Thanks everyone!

Jean-lynd - I checked out travelocity. I can't believe that the balconies are less than the Category I!! It is still about $200 more than we paid, so I guess we got a bargain.

I just sent the TA another email regarding the balcony upgrade. I already called her supervisor once after she didn't respond (after she took our credit card #, we didn't hear back from her for over a week!!). I feel kinda bad calling again. And you guys have made me feel better about being on Deck 2.

I guess whatever is meant to be is meant to be. Certainly not going to let it spoil our trip!!!

Thanks everyone!!

Already heard back from the TA - to upgrade is only $60pp - so hubby and I are definitely going to go that route!

icon_razz.gif my husband was happy after we had got into our cabin on a lower deck because it was "smoother" than those up above us...it was a rocking and rolling w/the storm we got caught in. He got sick and being lower was a god send. lol

We were on deck 2 in a category I on the Navigator last October and thought it was great! You'll have a nice big window..and it's nice and quiet down there! I didn't feel any motion at all! We were in the 3rd floor dining room...so just walked one flight up to dinner or took the elevators up further if we wanted. Also, you only go one deck down to get off the ship in port!

I was in a deck 2 room near the front and did feel more motion. The other room I've had was deck 8 (a little above halfway up) and midship. We could hardly feel any motion in this room. I'm going to try to book midlevel, midship on my next cruise if possible...although as I'm a grad. student I tend to go towards the much cheaper option.

We've done deck 2 thru 10 and have found that Deck 2 was fine. You'll have no worries. In fact, we'll be on Deck 2 mid-ship on the Majesty later this month. Lower decks alleviate the passenger elevator crunch when in port.

Although the point is mute now that you've upgrade, I thought I'd chime in for others. We cruised on deck 2 twice, both midship. The location is quiet and very stable. The only real disadvantage is that you are away from it all vertically speaking. As a result, you will need to use the elevators or stairs. Although I don't mind stairs, they do get a little annoying if you go to and from your cabin a lot. However, they do let you keep the pounds off.

Take the deck two outside. The view is nice. It is quiet and very little movement. You are always a long way from the activity you want to be at. But, all elevators go up.See you on deck two. 04-17-04.
