If you have been to this port, could you share what your experience was there and what you liked to do there, thanks! Not getting a handle on this place; maybe an art and architecture tour? It looks like a hot and humid city (going mid August), so that is a factor as well. Thanks! elaine

Hello!

We spent 4 days there on a post cruise land visit.

If you go to our personal travel journal website..

I have photos and inside the photo page is

a Sights to See list for Riga that would be helpful to you...

If you have have any questions after seeing the pictures

and reading the list, let me know!

K.

It's very easy to do on your own once you get to the old town area.

The only thing you probably won't have time to do is the Central Market.

which is 4 airline hangars...

it's fascinating to wander....it's a place where you buy your broom, fabric, sauerkraut and pigs feet

everything you could ever need as a resident or someone like us on land travel that can make picnics

not so much as a tourist!

if you are a vegetarian you might want to avoid the meat area....

there are no behind the scenes...

we opted not to put the market pictures on the website..BUT if you want to see them send me an email through our website and I'll send them to you!

My MIL is a vegetarian...I didn't want to ACTUALLY GIVE

her an excuse to give me attitude...:)

a great cheap lunch is at Provence ...it's near the House of Blackheads and they have ham and cheese crepes for

5 euro and it's charming and you can sit down for no extra charge...we ate their 3 times as it was the best option for cheap eats.

We found the Lonely Planet book had the best information along with the Riga website I put on Sights to See list!

If you have any other questions let me know!

one more thing....

the Art Nouveau architecture is phenomenal..and there are self guided walking tours that are dedicated to it...

The Latvian tourist board sent us information on a ton of stuff including that.

If you are interested in that, it would be a wonderful way to spend some of your day..

Thanks! I am getting more of a feeling about this City. The ship has an art and architecture tour or we could wander on our own. Maybe the latter? I appreciate your recommendations.
