Wow.. Oasis of the Seas

Recommended Posts

OK, I am actually very happy that some of you guys are not excited about this ship. Honestly, the thought never even occurred to me. I just assumed we'd all be fighting for a cabin come sept3 ! :) I don't doubt, however, that the Oasis will live up to the pictures. RCCL having alot of experience in groundbreaking cruise ships and all. We are getting a loft or aqua cabin even if someone has to get hurt. ;)

I was on the Freedom maiden voyage and I think I payed close to 1200 for an inside!!!! I'd say on the Oasis it's gonna be at least 1450 for an inside!!! Yikes!! I've been saying all along that the fam is going on the maiden Oasis but come next year fall, my money may be a little funny!!!

Does anyone else think this is the biggest waste of space????

I think you are mixing up something you might not enjoy by calling it a waste of space.

I do not like soccer, does that make it a waste of space and time. No all it is something that I do not enjoy.

Check your facts.

The number that you quoted on the Conquest is for first and second passengers only at 2974 which equals a PSR of 36.98

The number of passengers on the Oasis first and second is only 5400 which brings a PSR of 40.74. A nice difference in space.

Carnival Dream will hold 3652 passengers at 130,000 tons and will have a PSR of 35.96. Even tighter on space. This is actually more passengers than on the Freedom of the Seas.

As long as we're discussing numbers... the Carnival Spirit at 88,500 GT with it's normal compliment of 2124 passengers has a PSR of 41.6 to 1... A VERY nice difference in space...

Let me begin by saying that I'm a HUGE fan of RCCL and have been a HUGE fan of the Oasis project. However I do have a reasonable and realistic fear as a RCCL shareholder and obsessed cruiser.

When the Genesis project was initiated 3 years ago, the economy was at a high point. Gas was very affordable, foreclosures weren't crippling the nation, there were plenty of jobs, food was very affordable, banks hadn't lost hundreds of billions of dollars, etc... Now we're at a point where the economy is getting worse and worse every day as the price of oil increases each and every day. I studied the RCCL charts and it's 100% clear that the price of the stock is directly related to the price of oil. So with all these negative effects of the currently economic crisis, will the Oasis debut in 2009 prove as successful as the debuts of the Freedom class of ships during the economic rebound after 9-11.

During Richard Fein's CNBC interview tonight, he didn't sound as positive as he has in the past. He sounded very concerned when discussing the oil crisis and its relationship to the cruising industry. Even with all the hype of the Oasis reveals today, he still couldn't show true confidence knowing that the cruising industry is facing never-before-seen challenges with the oil crisis.

Oil at $4 right now may actually prove to be affordable compared to how high it may eventually go. All the world needs is one major catastrophe affecting the supply of oil, and we may see that $4 easily become $7 or $8. In terms of cruising, this would mean higher prices and much higher fuel surcharges. Eventually the long time affordability of cruising may well disappear. It's already happening to the airline industry and the trucking industry. Cruising is probably next.

By the time Oasis debuts, the price of the cruise may not be the only factor. The majority of cruisers on Oasis will be flying into Fort Lauderdale to sail on her. If airlines continue to raise their fares to new highs and with the cost of the cruise and other expenses associated with such a trip, those that could now afford such a trip may no longer be able to.

RCCL's stock has dropped nearly 15+ points since the beginning of 2008. An unimaginable decline. Bookings may be up as cruising is currently affordable, but with the price of oil increasing, it's becoming more and more difficult for RCCL and other cruise lines to make a profit.

I pose a question for all RCCL cruisers:

HOW HIGH A FUEL SURCHARGE WOULD YOU PAY PER DAY TO CONTINUE CRUISING??

I was really excited about Oasis but think most of the reveals today including the boardwalk are very very tacky. Seems like it will be an amusement park in the water....

This thread was interesting to read......but no one posted a link to the "amphitheater" so I found this:

AquaTheater_w_rockwalls.jpg

I have to agree....total waste of space.......and a bad photoshop'd rendering.......;)

I think this amphitheater looks way cool. I'm guessing that there will be tickets for the shows, ala the ice shows? Because I can imagine that the entire ship will want to check it out just because it's something new.

I noticed the rock wall in the rendering. Is this the only rock wall on the ship? I thought RCCL's signature was having the rock wall on the back of that tall thing sticking out in the middle of the ship. The rock wall should be next to the sports court. It looks out of place here at the back of the ship.

I was just playing with photos, and I clicked on the hi res version of the side view of the ship. If you look at the very top and aft of the Viking Crown Lounge, it looks like there may be some balconies up there. Check it out for yourself. Go to image gallery and click on the hi res version of the side view, and zoom into the viking crown. Let me know what you think

Think about it.

This is supposed to be the kids neighborhood gathering place why put a full on bar($) there?

Also... I've looked long and hard at the boardwalk and all that I have seen for the kids to do are...

The Carousel ($?)... not exactly a thrill ride.

The fake Tats ($?)

The fortune Teller ($?)

The Candy Store ($)

The Zipline Experience ($)(? Ht requirement)

JR ($)

Fried Seafood Place ($)

Shops ($)

Put you head in a weightlifter cutout (Free)

Bar ($- and not for at least 5 more years for my oldest)

Oh and rock climbing and Aquatheater out the back

Look at the photo's and tell me what other fun is really there in this neighborhood? My kids would get bored pretty quick if that was really it.

It is not suppose to be for kids, it is suppose to be for EVERYONE! I for one, do not have kids, but plan on spending time there. The Aqua Theater is part of the Boardwalk, and I imagine people will want drinks while watching shows or sunning during the day. What makes you think it is suppose to be for kids?

MBeamTX I see you are on our Panama Canal repor cruise. Have you stopped by the roll call thread?

Hi SkierRob!

Yup, I've been by the roll call. I posted there the other day, in fact. We're also signed up for the Meeting & Mingle. I just wish I didn't have to wait so long to cruise. :(

Hi FitzLA, I see what you're saying. Definitely looks like balcony cabins to me, even at the rear of the Viking Crown too. The one on the corner looks like a very large cabin too. With all the new class of staterooms announced it wouldn't surprise me that there are 'premium' cabins in some fantastic locations. I know some people will say this is only a rendering, but looks pretty obvious to me, well done in spotting them!

I'm gonna book for my b-day in January 2010. My partner was against it, but once I showed him the video, he was all for it. YAY!

Hey Tim! Long time no see but I haven't been hanging around the boards since I can't cruise right now. But after seeing the video today and showing it to Joe....We want to go too!

We are going to book it. Not sure which sailing. Inaugaral would be an experience all on it's own.

I can't believe the negative comments - you haven't even seen the ship yet, let alone been on it!

And how is it like a mall? There didn't seem that many shops in the small section they have shown of this amazing looking creation. It looked like an abundance of restaurant and entertainment choices to me.

For those that don't want a resort at sea, why cruise at all? So you stay in your room all trip? Have you not seen the bars, casinos and facilities on board any Carnival ship? What's wrong with a dinghy on a lake, if you want water and limited facilities?

This looks amazing, as will all new ships to come after this. I can't wait, for this, The Carnival Dream and whatever else the future throws up at sea.

My aunt went to the same Greek island for her vacation for twenty years, she now travels the world and can't believe how great it is to widen your horizons.
