Wow.. Oasis of the Seas

Recommended Posts

While I probably will not go on Oasis I love it. It is the perfect destination for families and the kids can now poop, pee and scream on the "big one".

Over the next few years the passenger demographics will shift with RCI. Families will go more and more on the Oasis Class and will stay with the Freedom leaving the smaller classes to the cruisers.

yeah I can see that lots of family's on this ship tons of kids I dont like real big crowds or kids so not for me but I was looking at the F3 by NCL looked like it was going for the young adult market.

People, once again, lets not forget that AQUA THEATER is part of the Boardwalk. This will be a pool during the day that anyone can use. The Boardwalk is for everyone, not just kids, and they always have bars by pools. At night, there will be shows. Adults will be drinking. So of course there will be a bar.

Why was this discussion moved from the Carinival Boards? With all of the comments, mostly negative, about Oasis and Royal Caribbean now here..... there is sure to be even more animosity between the RCCL board and Carnival board.

Just found this funny - RCCL used the exact same people/figures in both the picture of the boardwalk and the aquatheater.

On the boardwalk: far right, in front of the surfboards is a couple. The man has on a light blue polo and tan pants and the woman has on a light pink sleeveless top and white pants. She's got her arms wrapped around his left arm.

At the aquatheater: far left, second deck/balcony above the aquatheater - there they are again, same position and everything.

Oh, no! Someone else on board is wearing the same thing I'm wearing!

I think the ship will be gorgeous when completed and very exciting to experience. We were just on the Liberty and never once felt crowded. As long as the cost to sail Oasis is not prohibitive, we will for sure cruise on her as soon as possible. We already are booked again on Liberty for 2010 and will move that res to Oasis depending on the itinerary and/or cost. Will wait for those factors before deciding.

Of course, a ship that big is not for everyone, but we are among those that think going on her will truly be anothe great experience. Until she is complete, I will continue to check out all the new features as they release them. I agree with the original poster WOW.

In the following picture, they used the same people (sitting in chairs) multiple times in the same picture. Sometimes with different poses, other times same exact pose.

I have to agree....total waste of space.......and a bad photoshop'd rendering.......;)

Wow, that is pretty pathetic photoshoping, LOL

If the chairs do go into lounge chairs then maybe it won't be too much of a wasted space but from the pictures it looks like stadium style chairs and I don't think they would be too comfy to lounge on all day by that pool. Again, just my opinion.

I have to say I think this new Oasis Ship is great for young couples and families or even singles. There is so much to do. I have sailed solo a few times and find that I like plenty to do if Im alone. If Im travelling a friend or partner then I prefer a more intimate ship like Celebrity Century or Millenium. I think it depends on the occassion and the company. There will always be a market for both.

I was offered a free 2 night cruise on Carnival at the start of July but turned it down as Im not convinced I would like the product. Whether its true or not the perception of Carnival in UK/Ireland is less of a standard than Royal Caribbean . Maybe Im wrong, maybe I should have taken the trip to see for myself but I have to say Im not convinced to jump ship yet!!

It's funny to me that Carnival people think Dream will blow away Oasis. lol. Not to be rude, I have sailed both lines and enjoyed both. But Carnival Dream will be smaller than RCI's Voyager Class ship, their 3rd largest class in their fleet. Oasis is just about twice the size. Dream will not be able to have anything close to what Oasis has to offer. I am sure it will be a great ship, but there will be no comparison. But you keep "dreaming". lol.

It just blows my mind how negative some of the Carnival regular cruises are . I have been on Carnival a few times and Princess but mostly sail RCCL as I am a D+ member and enjoy the perks.I understand how a CC cruiser couldn't appreciate a big ship as there large ships are laid out so poorly,so please don't book this, just don't jump on the bandwagon when CC trys to copy it a few years down the road. The reason I keep coming back is the employee ratio to guest but that is something else the CC'ers have no concept of.

I think this ship is off the hook and can't wait to sail it .Having done the caribbean more than 25 times I realize the ship IS the destination. The Caribbean provides the weather and water as most all islands seem the same by your 3rd visit. Could you imagine the type of entertainers they will be able to provide for this crowd It would not surprise me to see Jimmy Buffett doing a show onboard and the theme cruises OMG. Let all the ney neyers stay home and live in the past but this is real and this is now, Thank You RCCL

In fact the bar is larger than the famed Carousel

At least they let the kid lets run thought the bar and it looks like a circus tent!

What do you think of the dual rock walls on the aft of the ship?

Wow! If you look at the front row of this picture, the divers sure do get up close and personal. I hope she didn't get hurt while diving into the benches.

Its funny that you mention F3. I just can't decide which is worse on a 'cruise ship': a merry-go-round or an Ice Bar (those thinks are friggin cold)?

I can assure you that this ship is designed to "nickle and dime you to death." I just can't understand how they plan to fill this ship with 5400 passengers each week. I can only assuming to compensate for the high price of airfares is to offer the cruise on the cheap and add everything else as pay as you cruise and that is to have as many profit centers on board as possible. Sorry...not my style of cruising.

Well what did your children do on other cruise lines that made it so special that they were amused the entire cruise? I have been on all classes of RCCLs ships and one thing I never encountered are children screaming "get me off this ship there's nothing to do". :D

People said the same thing about the Voyager class and RCI built five of them. Next they said that RCI could never fill the Freedom class and we now have three with negotiations for a fourth. There will be plenty of folks who want to cruise on this ship with me included.;)

L If airlines continue to raise their fares to new highs and with the cost of the cruise and other expenses associated with such a trip, those that could now afford such a trip may no longer be able to.

It's like turning the knife!

It's sad that it might be the airfare that becomes the reason we can't cruise as much.

Let me begin by saying that I'm a HUGE fan of RCCL and have been a HUGE fan of the Oasis project. However I do have a reasonable and realistic fear as a RCCL shareholder and obsessed cruiser.

When the Genesis project was initiated 3 years ago, the economy was at a high point. Gas was very affordable, foreclosures weren't crippling the nation, there were plenty of jobs, food was very affordable, banks hadn't lost hundreds of billions of dollars, etc... Now we're at a point where the economy is getting worse and worse every day as the price of oil increases each and every day. I studied the RCCL charts and it's 100% clear that the price of the stock is directly related to the price of oil. So with all these negative effects of the currently economic crisis, will the Oasis debut in 2009 prove as successful as the debuts of the Freedom class of ships during the economic rebound after 9-11.

During Richard Fein's CNBC interview tonight, he didn't sound as positive as he has in the past. He sounded very concerned when discussing the oil crisis and its relationship to the cruising industry. Even with all the hype of the Oasis reveals today, he still couldn't show true confidence knowing that the cruising industry is facing never-before-seen challenges with the oil crisis.

Oil at $4 right now may actually prove to be affordable compared to how high it may eventually go. All the world needs is one major catastrophe affecting the supply of oil, and we may see that $4 easily become $7 or $8. In terms of cruising, this would mean higher prices and much higher fuel surcharges. Eventually the long time affordability of cruising may well disappear. It's already happening to the airline industry and the trucking industry. Cruising is probably next.

By the time Oasis debuts, the price of the cruise may not be the only factor. The majority of cruisers on Oasis will be flying into Fort Lauderdale to sail on her. If airlines continue to raise their fares to new highs and with the cost of the cruise and other expenses associated with such a trip, those that could now afford such a trip may no longer be able to.

RCCL's stock has dropped nearly 15+ points since the beginning of 2008. An unimaginable decline. Bookings may be up as cruising is currently affordable, but with the price of oil increasing, it's becoming more and more difficult for RCCL and other cruise lines to make a profit.

I pose a question for all RCCL cruisers:

HOW HIGH A FUEL SURCHARGE WOULD YOU PAY PER DAY TO CONTINUE CRUISING??

You said it...who know whats going to happen in the next year with the economy...

Rolloman...i think what the other poster was simply stating is that the Oasis may be off the drawing board and being built but it hasn't been finished yet and it will not become a reality until there is 7000+ people on that ship and it is sailing out of Port Everglades for the first time, then it will def be a reality, so until who are you to criticize anyone's opinion....well personally i would criticize anyone's opinion period, but hey that's just me:)

an ice bar...I must have missed that...while it may be cold I cant wait!!!

The Ice Bar is for NCL's new F3 ship, not for the Oasis. It will be kept at 17 degrees, but guests are provided with a special jacket as well as hat and gloves. It does look pretty cool and is modeled after the Ice Bar in Sweden.

Well I am a veteran cruiser and I think it's awesome!! All cruise ships are floating hotel/casinos/resorts.... please:rolleyes: They all are getting bigger and better IMO. There is something for everyone on this ship. No one says you have to do everything or anything....

Gee I wonder if this were a Carnival design the opinions would be different;)

I'm a Carnival cruiser and I don't even care for the Conquest Class size. I prefer going to sea to be with the sea, so the aft Lido deck on the Spirit Class ships are just fine. 270 degrees OPEN to the sea. My favorite spot. Bar, pool, food thru the doorway and miles and miles of SEA !

I can see, I hope objectively, how this new RCI ship could be a boon to the family cruiser. She's definitely big and beautiful. With all the things for the kids to do, the family Moms and Dads should really love this ship.;)

I'm guessing this "one of a kind" ship will command AND GET top dollar. She's a beaut. Congratulations, RCI . :)
