"LIVE" from the Majesty / 06-21-2008

Your review has turned into my bible for this trip on Saturday! One question, I've looked at the photos of the various beaches and I'm sure with all we want to do we'll only get to two of them. If you had your choice of the two, which would they be? We're interested in the scenery. I noticed a few photos showed beaches with huge rock formations, that's what we're interested in. Also, having restrooms and refreshments would be a plus. While we will go into the water, we're not worried about currents, etc. as we will stick close to shore. Again, thanks for all the great info.!

 

As poted above, I would try to spend at least a couple of hours at Horeshoe Bay Beach. . . I have been to many of the Beaches in Bermuda, and that is one of the nicest. . .

 

I tried to take photos of as many beaches as I could, because the weather was perfect all week.

Radio, I so appreciated the quality of your video, even more now that we have returned from the 7/5 sailing. I tried to get a video of our arrival in Bermuda, but between my shaky handling of the camera and the idiotic, inappropriate catcalls from some junior-high boys next to us on the Promenade Deck, yelling stupid things to the well-wishers at the Cut, my "video" was a total bust. I'm glad I still have the memory!

 

What was completely unexpected was the Town Crier's second greeting at the pier when we got to Ordance Island. He slowly and wonderfully officiously called out the time of day ("one and one-half hours past high noon"), the date, ("the seventh of July in the year of our Lord two thousand and eight"), and then "God save the Queen. . . and God bless the Baltimore Orioles!"

 

There was a delightful roar of laughter and applause from lots of people on various decks on the port side!

 

By the way, I smiled at the sloshing of the pool water in your video from the rough seas you had, which turned out to be worse than anything we experienced. We were continually checking the progress of Bertha as she threatened Bermuda. My b-i-l couldn't go on his third dive on Wednesday afternoon because the swells were so bad. We could see the swells (though the movement of the ship wasn't bad at all) as we left Bermuda and sailed east, toward Bertha. But as soon as we turned north, everything got smooth for the rest of the sailing until we got close to the Chesapeake Bay. Then, the rolling became pronounced.

 

Thank you to our fellow CCers who were praying for us on the Majesty, Dream and Dawn, the three NCL ships in Bermuda! God answered!

I forgot to take a picture of our inside standard—108 sq. feet—but you can imagine the width of the cabin by removing 2/3 of the chest of drawers, leaving the one width of drawers between the beds.

 

If you have the beds put together into a queen, leaving the drawers on the one side, getting to the bedside table generally means sitting on the corner of the bed to pivot your body and swing your legs around from in front of the desk or the closet into the space in front of the drawers.

 

Yes, it's tight. . . but you're on a CRUISE!!! :)

I'll jump in here.;)

Anywhere along the railings starboard side would be good and not necessarily the highest deck. As a heads up, people start gathering at the railings far in advance of getting to the Town Cut, everyone gets anxious when they first see land but it's quite a awhile until you get really close.

 

It gets very "congested" and some people get a bit pushy at the railings on the upper decks. You might be better off with a spot on the promenade deck which might not be as crowded.:)

I would suggest the promenade deck. Athough we could not find space on the bow, it was filled up well before we picked up the pilot, we found a "notch" under on of the life boats that was perfect. Probably 1/4 way back from the bow. Had a wonderful, unobstructed view.

But seriously, what kind of person is it that would see a cruise ship coming through that cut, with probably hundreds of people trying to get a memorable picture of a truly unique event, and deliberately stand in such a way and place as to be completely intrusive on the event like that?

 

I don't often speak my mind so bluntly, but I find that behavior despicable. Am I missing something? Why would anyone be so self-obsessed? Or is it possible that they could be completely clueless of the consequences of their actions?

 

If I were on that ship, trying to take that picture, I would find this situation extremely frustrating.

Marylyn, the closer you can get to the bow (which, admittedly, means early), the better. We were about 1/3 of the way back on the Promenade Deck and I felt like we were missing some of the best stuff. (For example, I felt like we were too late for the cannon effect; only the people way forward on the ship could really appreciate it.)

 

I'll tell you something unrelated. Radio's blow-your-socks-off pictures hinted at it, but the colors of Bermuda's shades of blue water were unbelievable. Between the six of us on our cruise, we've been all over the world, and no one had seen water that gorgeous. (Several places in the Caribbean were close, of course, as was Bora Bora.) We took a taxi tour of the island and made stops at several South Shore beaches, on a fabulously clear, blue-skied day—which alone makes a difference since it intensifies the water color. I'd give you a link to a picture, but it doesn't do reality justice. Now I really understand why so many people say that one trip to Bermuda isn't enough. On our last dinner, each of us shared with the others our favorite part of the cruise; drinking in the beauty of the blue was the favorite of both my sister and me.

 

Oh, and as we left Bermuda, we saw something new. The ship plowed into schools of flying fish that you could see just below the surface, swimming away from us. We saw scores of what looked like small white birds suddenly appearing out of nowhere, either skimming the surface or skipping along like rocks, then plunging back into the water. Very cool!

Yes. . . I signed up for a Players card on Sunday, and I had to make my card visible while I was playing slots, or tables.

 

Bar waiters came over to me every 10 minutes to ask if there was anything I would like to order. . .so I received alot of Coke or ginger ale ! ! (I did have 1 Pina Colada :) ) All were complimentary. . . .

The Town Crier is actully the guy who fires the cannon. . . He then has to walk over to the postion (approx 30 ft) where he is seen in my photo.

Yes, it's very possible that could be the case. However, I'm sure they could see all the people with their cameras on the ship. Apparently it didn't dawn on them that people weren't taking pictures of them.;)

It's not just locals.;)

Many visitors make a point of being there when the ships go through because it is quite a sight. That is one thing that's on our list for this year since we will be in St. George when a ship arrives.:)
