dbhome Posted June 23, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 23, 2008 Just got my cruise packet today. We cruise July 12, from Whittier to Vancouver - stopping in Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan. We plan to rent a car in Skagway and drive to Emerald Lake. In Juneau we want to go to Mendenhall Glacier and hike. My question is about kayaking. Is there a place you'd recommend this? What tour companies have you used?
GMoney Posted June 23, 2008 #2 Share Posted June 23, 2008 I'd recommend Whittier before you board the ship, if you have the time. IMO, it's your best options by far. http://www.alaskaseakayakers.com/ http://www.pwskayakcenter.com/ Many people post that they enjoyed kayaking in Ketchikan (Orca Cove, Tatoosh Islands), but it didn't really do anything for me. http://www.southeastexposure.com/eagle-islands-sea-kayaking-experienced.html http://www.kayakketchikan.com/
kelleya Posted June 24, 2008 #3 Share Posted June 24, 2008 We loved kayaking 2 weeks ago in Ketchikan at Orca's cove. I think it depends on what you are looking for. We just wanted a nice, low key, paddling excursion with lots of scenery and some wildlife. That's exactly what we got - I would call it definitely more for beginners and not for the more athletic - our group was split; although the more athletic type enjoyed the day it certainly wasn't a challenge, nor were wer looking for one:) We used kayakketchikan and had a great excursion. Good luck!!!
sunsetbeachgal Posted June 24, 2008 #4 Share Posted June 24, 2008 Just back from the most amazing trip...we did kayaking in Ketchikan with Southeast Sea Kayacks...a wonderful trip and saw Orcan whales and Humpback whales while on the trip...a great place to kayak and moderately strenuous...check them out! It is a 1/2 day excursion so plenty of time left to shop around Ketchikan...
kelleya Posted June 24, 2008 #5 Share Posted June 24, 2008 Just so you know, Southeast Seas Kayaks and kayakketchikan are the same folks. Sunsetbeachgal - I'm glad your excursion was so great with them!! Ours was too!! We had a guide named Kaley - she was fantastic.
H2O babe Posted June 24, 2008 #6 Share Posted June 24, 2008 We also used Southeast Sea Kayaks in Ketchikan and it was a great excursion. We had pre-arranged to have Ryan McCue set his float plane in to pick us up right at the end of the kayaking and then we flew off for a flight excursion in the Misty Fjords. A great day in Ketchikan for us and we had no rain or mist/fog. K.
