Hi everyone-

I am helping my dad plan a cruise to Alaska in July of 2009. My mom's birthday is the 18th and then my parents wedding anniversary is the 19th which will be 40 years!!! My mom has been wanting to go for so long and my dad has finally decided to surprise her!!!:D :D :D

So I am going on a cruise this Sept to the carribean but I have no idea about Alaska. Can anyone reccomend a good cruise line for that amount of time that has nice ports? I really want to plan something special for them. I have seen Princess for far.

Any advise will be appreciated!!!

Thanks

Renee

Unless you do a back to back, most cruises are only 7 days unless you start in Seattle or San Francisco. A seven day one way can be combined with a land portion. Most of the cruise lines can do this for you. I would find a good cruise specialist TA and discuss all the options with him.

If they are interested in a cruise only with more than just the big three ports (Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan) you may want to look into Princess and their 14 day Alaska Connoisseur's cruise. This year they are doing it r/t from Vancouver and next year it will be r/t from Seattle. Besides the big three ports it will also be going to Seward, Kodiak, Icy Strait Point and Valdez as well as Glacier Bay. I am booked on this cruise in August of 2009. It is on the Pacific Princess for 2009 which is one of the former Renaissance ships and carries only 700 passengers or so.

Wow the ship only holds 700 people? That sounds like it would be a nice relaxing cruise. I will send my dad this information to look into this ships itenitary.

Thanks!!

My mom and I are doing this cruise in July 09. We are really looking forward to being on a smaller ship. It is r/t from Seattle. We both have been to Alaska before and are looking forward to going more northwest. I have been to Icy Strait and LOVE it. Can't wait for mom to see it. It will be nice to visit ports we have seen before and explore new ports.

We are also doing this cruise but July 10th of this year. You may want to check out our rollcall or the Yahoo group site I set up for the cruise. Links to both are below. One negative of the smaller Princess ships is they do not have "Personal choice dining". Anyway if you check the links below you can find out a little now and more later about this cruise.

Here is another link from someone who just returned and did a "live from the cruise" thread.

My wife and I just celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary so I understand the celebration.

Have a great next cruise.

You may also want to look at HAL. They have B2B on the Veendam that is supposed to be spectacular.

We did seven day on Norwegian last September and while Alaska is a magnificent place to cruise to...Norwegian is not a line that I would want to celebrate a 40th anniversary on. But that's just me!

We favor Royal Caribbean. The Serenade and Radiance are two of Royals most popular and beautiful ships.

Although the Serenade and Radiance are great ships, they primarily do 7-night cruises. The only exception is the repositioning cruise from San Francisco and San Diego.
