Glory to Miami - Guess I'm Cancelling

Does anybody know why they're moving the Glory 2 months before the Dream arrives? It doesn't make sense to me...Glory is the only 7 day option out of Pt Canaveral; Miami has several 7 day options. Now PC is left without a 7 day option for 2 months:confused:

My guess would be $$$, the PC cruises were usually some of the cheapest offered for a 7 day cruise. Glory is able to charge a higher fare in Miami, doing a popular itinerary..HMC..Grand Turk

This does appear to be a pattern with Carnival replacing ships. When Celebration left Jax in April they left a 5 month gap in sailings. Fascination wont move to Jax until September.

The Glory is going to drydock in the last 2 weeks of Sept. So when it leaves drydock around Oct 2 , then it will repositions to Miami iso going back to PC.

I had the same with HAL when they cancelled my cruise on the Eurodam, I could chose any other cruise at no additional cost. Finally my new cruise was usd 377 more and they matched the price.

The last info I was given is that bookings are defintely going to be moved to other ships (including Carnival Dream) at the same booked rate. That process would begin "no later than mid-July". That really made no sense, but Kim was making noises like she was about to throw up, so I told her to take a deep breath, have a nice day, good luck, and then I hung up.

Mid July??? Bookings start on July 1. Does this mean that those who have specific cabins booked, such as 9 wraps, may lose them because someone else books them prior to mid July??

My PVP is on vacation until 6/30. Great timing, huh?? I really like her, I hope the pressure didn't make her quit. Her "colleague" never answers her phone.

No answers for me on my Feb. 2010 cruise. But I am pretty sure that if I have to pay a much higher rate, I will just cancel. and maybe book with another group that is going that still has cabins, if they hold their rate.

Otherwise, I will just book a different cruise at a different date .

Yes, unfortunately, that is the information that some in the Resolutions department were giving out. I used that exact question (that you just did above), and the person was totally clueless.

I also reminded that the Resolutions team and the reservations team don't work in tandem, and that even if I was the very first person on the phone come July 1, they would not be able to make the same swap arrangements as the Resolutions department. My call would have to be transferred. There's was much silence after that.

I have three Glory sailings affected by all this, and the outcome on each will be different. One have now been taken care, of and I'll probably adjust one more and cancel the third (since they've clearly stated that my former cabin, 2462, would not be available -- as it had already been re-booked by someone else.

what is the resolutions dept? Do they only work with groups? If not, should I contact someone there regarding my Feb 2010 cruise since my PVP is on vacation? If so, how do I reach them??

Sorry for all the questions! My PVP should not be on vacation...not when I need her !!! ;)

All I have to say is this. I have been fortunate enough to have my 5 cabins, and 7 cabins of the others coming with me who have directly booked through Carnival with my awesome PVP (we have about a dozen other cabins that my friend in Spain insisted on booking through her online TA and I haven't heard from her), are all switched to the new sailing of the Glory, from Miami, at the same rate and fuel supplement, and the crappy $25 pp OBC.

Although I feel fortunate after reading all of this, I do have to agree that this was accomplished after an HOUR on the phone with totally clueless people (some whom I spoke to, when calling the number provided in my cancellation email, also had no idea what I was talking about). One of my friends who called the same number was also on the phone for over an hour to change THREE cabins. HALF OF MY PARTY didn't even receive the cancellation emails. ???

I have no issue, other than preferring not to sail on a Sunday, with the changes made. My issue is with the COMPLETELY BOTCHED customer service. Carnival totally dropped the ball on this and it's almost EMBARASSING to ME. I did write a letter to guest relations, not because I expect anything in return, but because they need to know what an absolutely HORRIBLE job they've done on this. I'd think it was kind of common sense to have a gameplan in place, notify your employees what that is and treat your paying customers right. EMBARASSING.

I have to agree with you. Truly embarassing that they didn't have a gameplan in place. A huge corporation like CCL should not be making bad customer service mistakes like this. True, if you don't take the cabin someone else will. But that is not a good attitude either. I would be curious to know if you get a response. Will you post it?

Hope your friend in Spain gets the same deal.

I also spent an hour on the phone yesterday being transfered all over the place and dealing with PVP's that had no idea what was going on. I did end up getting a lower rate I guess because my rate before was high. And I did get to keep my old fuel supplement charge and my 30 day booking credit. I just stayed patient with them and it all worked out. I hate the idea of leaving out of Miami because I don't want to fly out of Miami and I don't like leaving on Sunday but I can deal with all that.

And I also rather go to Costa Maya then Cozumel but again something I can deal with:)

This is exactly right. Those sailing between October 3 and December 5 of 2009 have to cancel and rebook at a higher rate. There are no 7-day cruises out of PC during this time frame.

This doesn't seem fair that you need to pay higher fare. They changed the deal, not you. Letters and phone calls might be needed to six this or get OBC.

I know these types of things are not supposed to be critiqued on CruiseCritic, but I'd like to apologize for my pathetic spelling and grammar mistakes earlier this morning. :o Glad some of you were able to figure out what I meant.

Note to self: Don, don't try to post stuff online using an iPhone. It makes you look like a mess. :(

OK, getting past that. . . I spoke with someone in the Resolutions department a short while ago, and it seems like they are slowly but surely getting their act together. Better late than never, huh? I'm hoping for a reply from my e-mail sent to Ms. Torrent. I'll advise here online what I learn.

I don't buy that they won't honor the price - I was on the phone last night with two different reps and both said the price will be honored and the fuel surcharge protected - one advised me not to cancel and go on a different ship as "you got a great price, don't waste it". Our Glory cruise October 3, 2009 was cancelled and we got an oceanview quite a while back for $349 per person and only 5% fuel surcharge. I am now going out of Miami (October 18?? I think) and get to do Honduras (which I really wanted) and it is costing me the exact same thing. The cruise vacation specialist I talked to last night was wonderful and made sure it was all the same - everything went so good I decided to pay off my cruise already. I talked to two because I was disconnected from the first one but he was also going to make sure my price was honored etc. I would call again until you get a rep that will honor it - if one will (or two) I am sure the rest will and can as well. Don't give up you will get it as long as you stay on the same ship - I did not care about it being a couple of weeks difference in time and I am fine with flying into Fort Lauderdale (prefer it actually).

I can only tell you what my experience was yesterday with two different Carnival reps in the GROUP department. Both told me I would have to cancel and rebook on the GLORY out of Miami and I would have to pay the higher rate for the same room - a total of $280.

After a half hour of arguing with the second rep, I gave up and cancelled my reservation and today, the other six cabins in our group also cancelled. Like I said, Carnival won't lose anything on this deal - except for the trust of 7 repeat customers. They will sell those seven cabins at the higher rate and go right on with their wheeling and dealing. They just won't see any of us on one of their ships for a very long time.

It will be interesting to see if I get any kind of a response to my scathing letter to Guest Relations.

yemaya, can you tell who the planner was you spoke to, i have spoken to two different one who both had a "too bad" attitude. I also got the $349 rate and carnival I'm sure has enjoyed using my $500 deposit this past year. How long before the Florida Attorney General gets involved. If they do this several times a year there is no tell how many millions of dollars they would have in float.

After a week of travel agent calls 2 hours on the phone with the resolution department and my travel agent I still have no resolution, she will try and get me some information by Monday. I have been as flexible as possible saying any Florida port, any week except Thanksgiving or Christmas, on any 7 day cruise, on any ship would be acceptable as long as they honor my rate. What more can i do!!
