DAL745 Posted June 27, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 27, 2008 Has anyone used the train to transfer from Civitavecchia to Rome (FCO) airport? Many warn against heavy traffic/cabs, etc early in the morning when all passengers are disembarking and trying to reach the airport. Wondering if anyone has used the train as an alternative to avoid traffic? The train times seam reasonable at 1hr 10 min to 1hr 30 min depending on the train. You are not going to go directly to FCO from Civitavecchia by train. You have to go almost all the way to Rome and come back (and then connect by bus for the final leg.) Best (and fastest) is Civitavecchia to Roma Termini and then the Leonardo Express to FCO. Could be done in 1 1/2 with lucky connections. Figure 2-2 1/2 hours to be on the safe side if you end up with a Regional train out of Civitavecchia. The Termini to FCO leg is only about 30 minutes. Rare Hlitner Posted June 28, 2008 #3 Share Posted June 28, 2008 The stories of the traffic in the morning are much exaggerated. Once you leave the port, there is some traffic through "Civ" until you reach the A-12, which is a large interstate type highway only a couple of miles from the port. From that point its all major highway right to the airport. There can sometimes be a little traffic slowdown on the road around Rome (it is rush hour) but generally you would be at the airport in about an hour. As to the train, no way can you do it under 2 hours. You would first have to board the port shuttle, and wait until they decide to leave (1 min - 15 min). Than, once you get to the port entrance you must walk about 5 blocks to the train station. Than, depending on your timing you might have to wait 30 min to get a train. Once you get into Rome, you would than have to wait for the Leonardo Express (runs about every 30 min), and before you can get the Leonardo Express (its at a track far back in the terminal) you will have quite a walk.
