crusinmama06 Posted June 29, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 29, 2008 I am so excited about the latest release about RCCL Oasis of the Seas. http://www.oasisoftheseas.com There will be a boardwalk with a CAROUSEL onboard. And a free zip line! I am so glad to see more kid friendly innovations on a ship. :D They said the next release will be about the kid areas and pool areas. Anyone here think they will do this ship?
MellowMel Posted June 29, 2008 #2 Share Posted June 29, 2008 The new ship seems very exciting for the whole family. I just dreamed last night that we were on a cruise and we were floating on a lazy river! Maybe the new pool area will have one!!!!
sandytoes03 Posted June 29, 2008 #3 Share Posted June 29, 2008 Our next cruise will on Oasis or Allure. We've got to see these ships!
CeleBrat Posted June 29, 2008 #4 Share Posted June 29, 2008 Would LOVE to. I just don't know if we can afford it. Every time we price an RCCL cruise, it's way above our price point. Perhaps it doesn't help that we keep finding really, really good deals that allow the kids to sail free or for less than $200 each. Keeping fingers crossed that we can "afford" it. Right..... gkrnjlr Posted June 29, 2008 #5 Share Posted June 29, 2008 NICE!!!! Where is it going to be stationed at and what itinerary will it have? Any clue yet? It's absolutely gorgeous! We usually price out RCCL and then Carnival for similar itineraries and with DH being previous military the military discount always beats RCCL by a longshot. This ship would be worth it though, I think.
CanadianTwosome Posted June 29, 2008 #6 Share Posted June 29, 2008 Funny... I just saw a thread elsewhere about this ship but with a negative twist. Seems the poster couldn't possibly enjoy cruising on such a huge, overpopulated behemoth. I'm not surprised to see pretty much the opposite opinion here though - and of course I agree with it!! I guess maybe when you travel as a family you're just more appreciative of all of the opportunities a ship like this provides for all age groups. :) (not saying people with different perspectives are unappreciative or 'wrong', just that their priorities and interests in travel are different) I will definitely be checking the itineraries and pricing on this ship!! crusinmama06 Posted June 29, 2008 Author #7 Share Posted June 29, 2008 Yes I know the itineraries...price is another question though. Itineraries - ship launches December 12, 2009. At first the itinerary will be Eastern, NO TENDERS, Docks only --St. Martin --St.Thomas --Nassau Bahamas Then in May 2010, the ship will start going Western --Labadee (RCCL private beach) --Cozumel --Fallmouth, Jamaica During one interview the head of RCCL was quoted as saying that passengers will "pay a premium to sail this ship" So far, the estimates for prices aren't good. It's going to be a high price for a while it seems. MellowMel - I HOPE it does have a lazy river. I am keeping my fingers crossed. :D Canadian - Alot of the traditional kind of cruisers dislike the "mall style" ships that they claim Freedom Class and Genesis class are. But you're right. When you take children on a ship, you have different priorities.

Turtle Girls Posted June 30, 2008 #11 Share Posted June 30, 2008 I have a question for crusinmama or anyone who has sailed the freedom class ships. I feel that the amenities on these ships look great but how much of it do you really use? My family always goes off ship on port days and then by the time we get back, eat and then get involved in kids club/evening activities, I don't know if we would "get our monies worth" by paying a more premium price. Any feedback would be appreciated. I have 3 dd ages 4/6/8 and have sailed about 12x(Princess,Carnival, Celebrity, RCL and Hal)
s318830 Posted June 30, 2008 #12 Share Posted June 30, 2008 We did Liberty in January with an 18-month old and a 3 yr old. My son (the 3 yr-old) absolutely LOVED the H2O zone and spent many hours there. For that alone I felt the choice was worth it. My husband also got a semi-private half hour lesson on the Surf Rider. He loved that and I definitely recommend that as the way to get your time on the surfrider. No lines, lots of time and chances, and it's not wildly expensive. srlafleur Posted June 30, 2008 #13 Share Posted June 30, 2008 It all sounds so awesome! But then I think, realistically, with all that's going on onboard, why bother going to ports at all? Perhaps they should just go out to sea far enough to open the casino and float around for a week or so (and save on fuel). I have a feeling, after the initial WOW, it would just be too much, for me. Not relaxing at all - rather overwhelming. Perhaps if it were an itinerary like R/T Hawaii, or Transatlantic with lots of sea days...but just for the Caribbean? No thanks, much as I'd love to see it, I think I'd rather be on a smaller ship and feel like I'm really on the ocean. BTW, maybe they'll have moving sidewalks to get from one end to the other? Or will they rent out Segways?
