I had to laugh at your worries. That's always my first worry, too. I am a woman of "traditional size" but I'm in phenomenal shape. (I'm 50 and just did a 10K run and last week I climbed a 7000 ft mountain) Anyway, we were floating on tubes through the mangrove swamps in Mexico and I fell off and couldn't get back on. I was laughing very hard and of course that made it worse. Finally, DH held the tube and I went up on the riverbank and plopped in from about 5 feet. If that didn't break the tube, nothing will.

My boyfriend and I booked our tubing excursion through Reggie's, which turned out wonderfully. It was just three of us with our guide, who was very nice and easy to talk to. We passed several mildly chaotic cruise line groups of up to 40 people, and I think that we had a much better time, for the same price. Reggie and our guide were both incredibly helpful; Reggie is even shipping me something that I forgot in the guide's car.

We did this wonderful excursion with Major Tom a couple of years ago. It was excellant and we were really impressed with him. First off, there was a couple wandering around looking for their guide (for 1 hr), Major Tom knew him and whipped out his cell phone and woke the guide up. The guide was still in bed (it was 10:00am) and "tired" and asked if Major Tom would take them. Major Tom invited them to join us as he did have room and they were relieved. They had pre-paid, he said no problem, he would get the money from the other guy! Pretty nice! He also said he would be reporting that guide as it made a bad impression of Belize for tourists and he wanted us all to have a great experience and come back there. We had a small group and on the way he gave us a lot of information about Belize, politics, culture, etc.

The walk through the forest is not difficult, more of a stroll. He knows a lot about the flora and fauna and was able to tell us about medicinal uses of the plants. The cave tubing part was wonderful and so different from the other big groups that we witnessed. It seemed that most of their cave experience was spent seeing how fast and how loud they could be. Major Tom had us stay off to the side until they passed and then spent a lot of time telling us about the ancient cave rituals and the rock shapes in the caves and about how the tribe leaders would come to the caves for the births of their children so the gods could witness it. All fascinating. We had head flashlights to check all of this out.

The lunch afterwards is in the park, excellent chicken for about $6 I think. There is a place in the park to change into and out of your bathing suit, nice and clean. All in all it was a lovely experience. At the end, Major Tom escorted us into the cruise terminal as the area just outside is a bit dodgy.

It is an excellent adventure and if I go back to Belize, I will definitely use Major Tom again.

Forgive me if this has already been asked. Is there any little shopping areas that Tom or anyone stops at? I would like to pick up a few things preferably away from the pier. Have not seen it mentioned in any reviews of cave tubing but have heard that Victor in Roatan has shopping stops. If not, guess we will have to settle for the pier shops.

We (4 people) used cave-tubing.com. Each time I e-mailed them they responded with answers. They also don't make you pay until the end of everything. We payed 75 bucks (no tax) and went ATVing AND cave tubing (with transportation). I think it is 45 bucks for just the tubing. I definitely recommend cave tubing. I am pretty sure that everyone (even the cruise ships) use the exact same caves. That means the same changing area and the same bathrooms, etc. So whoever you go with, you will be in the same place. May as well look for the best price. We made reservations online and they had a board with our name on it just outside the port entrance. You can't miss it. I just got back 2 weeks ago. Carnival Legend from Tampa. Just days before the hurricanes started coming. haha

I have contacted cave tubing . com four times now and have not heard back from them about tubing in Belize. Has anyone else has a hard time getting a hold of them? IS there a number to call?

Just a thought. You may want to check your spam folder. Sometimes the replies can wind up there.

Crocs or Tevas might be the best thing for this excursion. Water shoes/booties have thin soles and there are more and more people complaining that they were not adequate; that old pair of disposable sneakers would of course, be the ideal thing - and the fellows at the cave park welcome gifts of any sort - tennis shoes in particular. Sooo...watch those feet - treat them well !!!

We leave on the Legend October 12th...did you have any issues getting off early not booking thru a Carnival tour?

When I went with Major tom we had a great time. I think he truely cares about his customers and that people have a good and SAFE time while in Belize. He and his guide were GREAT with us and he went out of his way to make sure everyone no matter what their physical condition or age was that everyone had a great time. He told us up front that there were times during the year that it was not safe to be on the river and in those times he would not take groups out. He is in business to make money but not if it means putting customers at risk. He is great and I cannot say enough great things about him. Keep up the good work and hang in there Tom. When you do the right thing you will win out in the end!

we went Feb 10th 09 with Yhony's Butt's up group. Great time! We did the ATV's as wellwhich was awesome but MUDDY!!! Just 3 of us on that with our own guide. You do need some experience to make it through the mud though or you will be stuck most of the time if you are afraid. The hike was a little long I admit. The caves themselves were not very exciting, but the guides made it fun. We felt very safe with cavetubing.com. We did see other tour groups with people all over the place. They pointed this out to us which was unsafe. We paid 75$ pp for the combo tour.

I booked our cave-tubing and ATV adventure with Yhony last Wednesday morning and heard back from him that same night. That was always something I wondered about, how long do they take to respond.

I know this is probably a very strange question but I have to ask. What are Tevas? I would like to know from those that have done this, what clothes do you wear when you go on the ATV tour? I know its muddy and all. Do you wear the same clothes when you go tubing or do you change before or after? (Sorry, first timers here.)

I think Tevas are like a sport sandal. I wore these, http://www.soccerevolution.com/store/products/NIK_18009_F.php ,

Nike straprunners. These are my favorite vacation activity shoes, very comfortable, great for walking and water. We brought extra clothing with us and we left our things on the bus while we were atv-ing and tubing. I wore a bathing suit with shorts on the atv and removed the shorts for tubing. If you get covered in mud on the atv like my husband did, there are outdoor showers available for you to rinse off afterwards and bathrooms that you can change in. But don't worry he wanted to get muddy. I kept enough distance between myself and the person in front of me so I just had a little mud on my feet. You are going to have a great time.

We are traveling to Belize the end on Jan./10 . I realize that the water can be higher or lower at different times of the year- but could anyone tell me the approx. depth? My husband is a non- swimmer and would be VERY nervous if it was too deep. Do people wear lifejackets?

When did you do your cave tubing/ATV?? We are going in Dec and I am wondering if the water levels are going to be high, low, or just right.
