I still think we'll still try Jade one evening. If everyone says to "think Chinese," I think egg rolls and sweet/sour chicken. Please tell me they have that there ?!
The Jade is just a buffet line infront of the Windjammer. I did not see egg rolls but I just walk by it several times. There are no menus for it.
What happened to the original poster? SHe either fell overboard or is having too good of a time to post.

Now the problem is that her cruise is over.....:(

It's packing night!
This is a MAJOR problem about the cruise being over. We stayed in the casino till around 12 last night and awoke around 7:30 were off the ship by 8 and to Hertz for 8:12.

Good Morning / Afternoon from our last day at sea. I had to sneak out of our suite this morning to make the Captain’s Corner I the Savoy Theatre followed by another round of BINGO. The jackpot is over 8,000 dollars. My time is coming at 3:30 this afternoon. But first I must go to the cooking demo and art auction. The kids are hanging at the pool. We can hear the music from our balcony on our private loungers. Hopefully today will go very slow.

Her husband plays blackjack at 500 to 1000 dollars a hand. Those are different level players than us.

My day yesterday did not go as I had planned. I did go to the Cooking demo and to the Art Auction but the Auction took too long to make the afternoon jackpot BINGO. I hated to miss out after contributing to the pot all week. Maggie did go and she was one of five people standing for the 10 grand prize with one number left but did not win. She still was very excited.

I had two letters about the Art Auction that had come to the suite offering free large art. One was for being in a suite and the other for being a diamond member. Then when I went to the last Auction you could sign up for their club and get another large piece of art and if you bought a piece you would receive another. Well I have 5 new pieces of art being shipped home. They say they are worth around 600 each but I am sure that is a stretch. I purchased a nice landscape piece for 220 and had some nice champagne.

The kids decided to take the coupons and go to Johnny Rockets last night but we went to dinner and tipped everyone out. Before dinner I went down to Vintages for a nice glass to Cab to take up to the room. I did not have time for much lunch so I order a cheese plate to have with my wine as I got ready for dinner.

The ship has been on a red alert and Vintages has not been able to have the cheese down there. I did not want to post this before so the people getting on today would not worry. It is really not a big deal. The crew just uses extra precautions cleaning and will not shake hands with anyone.

I gather you mean "red alert" for norovirus. Did they have out hand sanitizers at the dining room and WJ doors (and upon boarding) and were you served in the Windjammer?

The last time we sailed on Mariner (Jan. 2007), they had a very small Noro outbreak but they did do extra cleaning and had out the hand sanitisers. I only know there were about 10 cases of Noro because my friend had to go to the infirmary for a bad cut from a fall and she saw people there who had it.

It was a red alert for a health issue not sure if it was norovirus or upper resp. thing. A few of the crew seemed to have the upper resp. problems. They were handing out hand sanitizers everywhere and did serve in the windjammer but no food or snacks in bars or the midnight walk around snacks.

It sounds as if whatever it was did not spread widely. I think RCI and the other lines have developed procedures to handle this sort of thing. Especially with the media poised to blame the cruise lines. A few months ago, I started a thread about someone actually having noro without being on a cruise ship -- being facetious, of course!!! Much of the media dubbed noro as the "cruise ship virus."

Thanks for all of your posts. We are sailing with 9 people in September and are really looking forawrd to it. It was great to feed off of your excitement.

I gotta give it to you, there is no way I could post during a cruise. There is way too much going on and the DW would throw a fit!

I was on the July 6, 2008 cruise. I was sick with something. It wasn't norovirus or sea sickness. I believe it was acid reflux disease because I stopped taking my pills. But, if not it was an upper resp. thing. I vomited at night 3 days in a row. During the day I was fine though!! It was ONLY DURING THE NIGHT. No diarrhea, just vomiting. After the 4th day, I was feeling much better. I know for a fact that it wasn't noro because I had noro before AT HOME. So, I'm certain it was my GERD.
Just back from Coco Cay and the temp felt like it was in the 80’s with a wonder breeze. The gulls became a little assertive during lunch. We walked around Snorkel Beach to Waterport Beach and found a big beautiful tree to relax under. Order up two Coco Locos and enjoyed the views. Then we headed out for a short hike. Went down to Wanderers Beach and onto the Nature Trail for a quite walk back to our perfect tree and then to a bit of lunch. All and all it has been a great day.

I am a little confused about what to do next. Do I go to Royal Pamper Yourself bingo or the Awesome Wine Tasting at Vintages Wine Bar? OK, not too confused, its wine for me. Bingo will come again tomorrow although I did win twice when on Explorer in Feb.

So at 4 grab a nice glass of wine and give it a slow swirl a deep sniff and a pleasurable taste with me. Here's to the Mariner!!!!!
LOL, thanks for the messages Kim. It's all coming back to me. I remember those gulls were CRAZY!! I took pictures of them, lol. There was one that was red/pink color. Some people were FEEDING the gulls when they SAID NOT TO!! I was eating food in front of the beach. The gulls were circling me almost, seriously!! They were eye level with me. I kept stepping back from my plate, lol. The flys were all around the food too, it was yucky. They kept shooing them away.

Me in the Casino: LOSE, lose, lose, lOSe, LOSE, LOSE, lose, lose
I think I'm going to stop playing the casino next cruise, I got so angry lol.

Kim, when you have time, please detail your cab/ferry/cab trip to St. John and Trunk Bay if you did this. We want to do the same, but we also want to have a couple good shopping hours in St. Thomas. Seems going to St. John would take up most of the day.
Is it possible to do both St. J and St. T in one day?
Do the stores/markets close before 6PM ?
Do you remember which night the midnite pool party is?

Thanks !!

They have reduced the number of ferries from Charlotte Amelie due to fuel prices. I believe they only have one in the morning and one in the late afternoon. As of last week the schedule had not been change to reflect this change. We headed into Charlotte Amelie to catch the ferry and told our taxi driver this and he gave us instructions where to go. Then we did not find the correct spot and walked all the way down to the other ferry station in front of the Holiday Inn. (a long walk) They told us it was 5 traffic lights back from where we had come. (no one knew of these changes) When we got back there was no sign of a ferry station. I went to ask someone and she informed me they had stopped running it. About the same time another taxi driver stopped by to ask my husband if we needed a ferry and offered to take us to Red Hook. He promised to get us on the 12 ferry and it was 11:30. I don’t know how he went but he did get us there in about 25 minutes. There was a long line but we did get tickets and were off. One the return we left Trunk Bay at 3:15 to catch the 4 pm ferry. But that did not work. When we arrived to Cruise Bay about 3:40 the ferry was pulling away from the pier. They should go every hour on the hour but it filled up early. There were a few people standing in line to board the next ferry so we decided to go get a drink and wait in the shade. The ferry returned early again and we ran over to get in line. Tons of workers were in line and packed in very quickly. We did get on this ferry but it again left early and was very full.

My suggestion is to allow 1 1/2 to 2 hours each way or arrange for private transportation over to St. John.

The pool party and buffet was on St. Thomas night. and I did not notice what time the stores closed.
kim, did you happen to find out when capt per will be going on vacation, and if for sure capt johnny will be taking her over again??

thanx
I did not find out the exact date. Capt Per did say that Capt Johnny would be doing the repo. because he has been on longer. Maybe you can ask the new live post. Sorry, I just did not get any time with him.
