shore ex in alaska with mom in wheelchair

Recommended Posts

So we are heading to alaska in a few weeks going to ketchikan, skagway, juneau,

in ketchikan my mom will be staying on the ship, in skagway we booked the white pass railroad since its the only wheelchair accessible shore ex listed for skagway

anyone done anything else in skagway while in a wheelchair? either ship excursions or private?

im just wondering what other options we have since our 7 year old might get bored on the train

thanks in advance.

Last year in Ketchikan, my wife - in a power chair - did the Saxman native village tour by herself (while I was off flying), and got along quite well, had a good time.

In Juneau, we went with Captain Larry. A pleasant young woman (Lacy) from Orca picked us up at the dock in a ramp van, took us to Mendenhall Glacier, then to the boat, then to a salmon bake and back to the ship. Getting on the boat was not difficult - part of the gunwale is hinged to swing aside, then there are short ramps up & down. I understand this was Cap'n Larry's design. I recommend Orca.

Next year, we'll be in Skagway, and we also were wondering what would be accessible for her.
