rfbdorf Posted July 7, 2008 #3 Share Posted July 7, 2008 Last year in Ketchikan, my wife - in a power chair - did the Saxman native village tour by herself (while I was off flying), and got along quite well, had a good time. In Juneau, we went with Captain Larry. A pleasant young woman (Lacy) from Orca picked us up at the dock in a ramp van, took us to Mendenhall Glacier, then to the boat, then to a salmon bake and back to the ship. Getting on the boat was not difficult - part of the gunwale is hinged to swing aside, then there are short ramps up & down. I understand this was Cap'n Larry's design. I recommend Orca. Next year, we'll be in Skagway, and we also were wondering what would be accessible for her. - Richard
SpoiledCruiser Posted July 7, 2008 #4 Share Posted July 7, 2008 In Kethchikan I went to the Lumberjack show in my wheelchair. You will meet and follow the guide down the street to the show's site. It was very easy to get to and my family sat in the bleachers beside me. Great show.
ILoveScotland Posted July 8, 2008 #5 Share Posted July 8, 2008 You asked my question, except it's DH who's in the wheelchair. I hope more people will repond as this is our first Alaskan cruise, and I don't have a clue about what will and won't work for us.
