No more blackjack dealers?

From the news event about Solstice:

...a blackjack table featuring the jazzy new LCD monitor to be found throughout Solstice's casino (we won a keychain for beating the dealer two times out of three).

...

The casino is going hi-tech, with wide-screen high-definition slot machines, LCD monitors at blackjack and roulette tables,

So does this mean they are getting rid of the dealers at those games? I have played BJ against a video dealer and it was Booo-ring. You can get such a vibe with a table of good players and an affable dealer. This does not sound that enticing, IMHO.

Most casino's with the new machines also have the dealers. The new machines are really cool, I have seen them in a couple of places. They, of course save money since they save a salary or two but also they play quicker. As I said, they usually do both however.

As they play quicker, they do more hands per hour which adds to the house bottom line.

I know in Vegas I will walk from a speed demon, non talking dealer and go sit with a friendly chatty dealer who is not pitching like his butt is on fire.

Then again I am increasing my time spent playing which means more in terms of comps.

Hi Flagger !

I asked your exact question today, and was told they are absolutely not getting rid of the dealers.... though I am not sure exactly what their role would be with these machines.

If I had to guess, not many tables will be computerized. I would think only a small handfull of them will be set up this way. This is a strictly my opinion though.

Thanks for the update Andy.

Have to admit I haven't played them so I can see your point of a bunch of players getting into the game. I didn't see that with the electronic dealers but they did look like fun. A comprimise might be the electronic roulette which has dealers but plays many more hands per hour.

As a person who works in a land based casino we see many of the new ideas. Most casinos will add some of the new options but not replace the old option totally until the see that the transition has been accepted by the players.

An example of this is the Ticket In Ticket Out concept (aka TITO). Some casinos have gone completely over to the coin free concept where as others that still have folks who prefer to actually see, hear and feel the coins have a mix of machines.

My husband had a serious stroke over 8 years ago, but he retained a desire to play BJ. He sometimes has difficulty counting but dealers and other players help him a little and seem to enjoy playing with him. He feels so good about being able to continue playing BJ. I'm glad that they won't do away with dealers.

I didn't get that this was a computerized game at all. Yes, they said the Texas Hold-em would be dealerless, but they only said that blackjack would have LCD screens. I was in Vegas this weekend, and a lot of the tables (notably at Mandalay Bay) had LCD screens instead of the little signs that displayed the table minimums and maximums. They also showed video advertising for restaurants and shows. It's just background while a dealer deals the cards. That's what I took this to mean.

Something like this may also bring in more people to play the table games. Many new or inexperienced players are intimidated by table games like blackjack. They're afraid they'll do something "wrong" and get chastised by the dealer or looked down upon for making a "dumb" decision. Playing against a manon-judgmental machine can be much more relaxing for them. My sister plays nothing but slots for exactly this reason.

They still have to use dealers - someone has to give you the chips when you win. :D

Was in a casino last week in Pa and they had blackjack, roulette, texas hold um, 3 card poker. all without dealers, all fancy machines with three or four players playing at the same time.
