ludocdoc Posted July 11, 2008 #1 Share Posted July 11, 2008 I'm booked on Carnival northbound to Whittier, with time after the cruise to see Alaska. I don't like the Carnival tour options. I read that at the Princess lodges, you may get better treatement if you're on a Princess cruisetour. Anyone have experience with the Princess rail/hotel package if you aren't on a cruise? I read on some boards there are issues with getting tickets and such smoothly. If not, anyone have experience with an independantly booked rail/hotel tour to Denali? Good/bad times at the hotels? I could be wrong here, but I don't think you can book the Princess land tour unless it is in conjunction with a Princess cruise. But it doesn't hurt to call and ask, all it will cost you is a phone call.
crusdiva Posted July 11, 2008 #3 Share Posted July 11, 2008 You can book a Princess Land Tour independently. Here's the link to their website: Princess Lodges Alaska I don't think you will find any difference in the way you are treated - IMHO Princess is the way to go in Alaska. Their lodges and grounds are beautiful and the land based personnel friendly and professional.

THe days are a bit goofy; I suspect they are aligned with the Princess schedule. The only one that fits leaves the day after we dock in Whittier. sadly, it goes southbound from Fairbanks to Anchorage. It fits, but a bit od to dock, fly to FAI, then tour south. There are tours via the AKRR and others, but I'm worried if I don't book through Princess, I'll get the Z building or something else...

cacy6893076 Posted July 11, 2008 #6 Share Posted July 11, 2008 There is also a number and /or numbers for the individual lodges themselves. Go to www.princesslodges.com for more info. Rail service is bookable as well without a cruise.
WeBeGone Posted July 11, 2008 #7 Share Posted July 11, 2008 Denali National Park also has lodging. It's quite easy to set up your own land tour. Just rent a car and go with your pre-arranged lodging. WE spent 3 months touring Alaska in our RV. No need for any tour.
