Magica Docs Received!!

This will be my first cruise with Costa. I just received docs for the Med cruise in early August and I read a couple of things that I did not know until now and would like to confirm with those of you who have been onboard the Magica recently. First, it says the official currency onboard is the Euro, which is no problem since I plan to obtain Euros from my bank before leaving the U.S. anyway, even though I will settle my account with a credit card. With the value of the dollar against the euro being so bad right now, I am assuming the waiters, bar staff, etc. would prefer/expect their extra tips to be paid in euros. The docs also said that they have discontinued accepting debit cards, and, further, there is no ATM onboard. I had thought I would use my VISA debit card, which I have used on other cruises with no problem, but I can also use a regular credit card. Thank you, in advance, for any comments or suggestions.

Your onboard charges will be settled in Euros on your credit card and converted back to dollars (or your currency of origin) by your credit card company.

 

Yes, the staff would appreciate extra gratuity in Euros as the ship is in Europe; for Caribbean sailings the dollar is perfectly acceptable.

 

You can use your VISA debit card onshore to take Euros out of ATMs.
