I need help packing: things not normally thought of!

Recommended Posts

A small spray bottle (2 oz size) with downy wrinkle reducer for touchups that aren't bad enough to send out to be pressed. Bandaids in case of blisters from wearing sandals a lot. Tylenol and Motrin for sunburn or headache (you'd be suprised).

Extra batteries or rechargable batteries and the recharger (along with a power strip) for all those electronics - esp your digital camera. Camera batteries are expensive onboard.

The tossable rain ponchos...69 cents at Ocean State Job lot...sorry I don't know if that is only a local store. Boy, would they have come in handy last year when it rained cats and dogs in Cozumel...bought a bunch for my trip next week!

Sorry, KML already said ponchos...and it won't let me delete!!!

Visine. My eyes are usually so red from staying up late then getting up for early excursions. I paid $9 for a bottle of Visine once.

And plenty of shopping money!!

A laynard to keep your seapass card around you neck. The gift store or the customer service desk will punch a whole in it for you.

It is the first thing I pack and would not leave home without it.

Definitely small binoculars....(I had a lot of fun with those), over-the-counter sinus medication if you are at all affected by humidity, walkie-talkie if traveling with a group, I like the post-it note idea and the highlighter...I'll pack that next time...if going in a group, I always bring something unique for everyone in my group....like a necklace, matching sunglasses, matching t-shirts, etc. just for fun.

I bring a plastic dispenser of antibacterial soap for washing our hands in the bathroom(don't like bar soap on my sink). I give the remaining to our cabin steward who always seems to appreciate it.
I also bring a light up travel clock, night light and air freshner!!

moleskin (precut) and my noisemaker.
The 1st is for the blisters that always seem to form on at least one of our 10 feet, and the 2nd is actually one of those small machines with 6 choices (ocean, heartbeat, etc.) to drown out noisy neighbors, snoring, whatever...

Just back from the Serenade and the one item I wish I had thought of to take was a stain stick such as "Spray and Wash" or any other brand. We had several t-shirts that needed to be treated because those Foo Foo Drinks sometimes get away from you! It would of been nice to treat them before they went in the "dirty clothes" suitcase.

We always take post it notes, the stiff cardboard envelope for photos, highlighter, duct tape, etc too. But one theing to make sure to bring, if anyone in your party wears glasses, is an eyeglass repair kit. On our last cruise, if we had not had one, our dear friend traveling with us would have been lost, he is legally blindand can't see at all witout his glasses, and his spare pair was broken in transit. The lens popped out of his regualr pair one evening at a show, we found the screw and was able to save his sight for the rest of the cruise!

Bring a small fan, an alarm clock, an extension cord, zip-lock baggies and an empty duffel bag - great to put dirty clothes in and fress up suitcase room for souvineers. Also, dirty clothes seem to take up more space than clean clothes do.

We took nylon sports "backpacks" for each of us -- they are rectangular nylon bags, very flat, with strings that go over your shoulders. They were extremely useful for excursions as they are much lighter than regular backpacks but will hold suntan lotion, a disposable camera, the shopping map, and a towel!

I forgot Tums and wished I had them; tried different foods and drinks than we were used to! And don't forget some sort of chapstick or something for sunburned lips!

How about those Palmolive dish wipes for washing out those souviner glasses?

Otherwise, we always bring a highlighter, post-its, tums, sinus meds, travel alarm clock, extra batteries, magnet for our cc door sign.

Just be careful when the spouse sees you packing the duct tape. When I told my wife I got the idea from this board, she thought it was some kind of high seas bondage thing However, it does come in handy for a number of things.

I also like to use zip or cable ties to secure my luggage. They can be cut off by the TSA if necessary, but also let me know if anyone has been in my bags.

I also like to take a heavy duty luggage lock and a bike lock (the kind that is a steal cable with a lock on the end). That way I can secure any valuables in the suitcase and then lock the suitcase to the closet, bed, etc. I'm not talking about the Hope diamond here, just things like the camera, etc. that might not fit in the safe.

Snap hooks and a pop-up mesh clothes hamper. The hamper folds flat in the luggage taking up little space. I find these better than the duffle bags for dirty clothes since they stand up.

Happy Cruising!

I used a packing list from the Cruise Diva website, and it was the first time in my life that I felt that I had all the right clothes for all the right occasions.

For the extras:
*I did OK with the hairdryer they supplied, but my hair is shoulder length.
*I can not say enough good things about the over-the-door shoe holder. It saved us a LOT of time, because we could find things! $5 at WalMart.
*I wish we had brought walkie-talkies. It's easy to get separated on the Voyager-class ships.
*A folding suitcase comes in handy if you buy too many souvenirs. Have it folded up when you get on the ship, and leave with it unfolded and full.
*Bring small gifts from home for the cabin steward, waiters, etc.
*If you need to keep in touch back home, bring your cell phone. It works in all US ports, and some more besides. Check your provider's coverage before you leave.
*If this isn't your first cruise, be sure to get a Crown and Anchor membership for the onboard benefits (drink coupons, etc.).

Adventure of the Seas 9/21/03 - wish I was still there!!!
