jerick Posted July 14, 2008 #3 Share Posted July 14, 2008 I used to live in San Diego, but did not frequent a lot of beaches. That being said, I'd recommend Mission Beach. There are some nice shops, and food is available. See the website for details. I hope this helps. http://www.sandiego.gov/lifeguards/beaches/ Jeff
ladypalmtree Posted July 14, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted July 14, 2008 Thank you. Can I just catch a cab from the port?
critterchick Posted July 14, 2008 #5 Share Posted July 14, 2008 Take the ferry over to Coronado Island. The ferry departs about a block from where Monarch docks - turn right as you leave the berth and walk to the ticket office that you'll see. Last time I was there (last year) the ferry left every hour or half hour, same with the return. It's about $3/per person each way, a 20-minute ride. You'll be let off in a little shopping/restaurant area, and there's a beach off to your right, as I recall. You'll have boffo views of the city and several nice restaurants to choose from for lunch. http://www.coronadovisitorcenter.com/pdfs/VC_Guide_2008.pdf
purplegoose Posted July 14, 2008 #6 Share Posted July 14, 2008 Definitely go with Coronado island over Mission Beach. If you take a taxi (or walk) from the ferry dock, down Orange for a couple of miles you will hit the 'ritzy' part of coronado island with Hotel Del and Coronado Beach (which is public). It's a great beachy town - much prefer it over Mission or Pacific Beaches in S.D.

alphakitty Posted July 15, 2008 #8 Share Posted July 15, 2008 I have a few photos of Coronado Beach....thought perhaps you'd like to see them. :) And I just learned how to post large photos, so I'm practicing so I won't forget. LOL
