A few questions on the Canary Islands?

My group is touring the Canary Islands in Dec. If anyone can answer these questions I would greatly appreciate it. How far from the port to the towns of La Palma, Lanzarote, and Tenerife? Walking distance and is it worth the walk into towns? Anything right there in the areas where the ship docks?

Any favorite shore excursions from Celebrity ship at any of these ports and Madeira, Portugal.

We were thinking of going to the beach in Lanzarote, Playa del Carmen. Any pros and cons for that beach? Is there an entrace fee for that beach? Price of taxi from port to beach?

We have many more questions, but trying to keep this short. We would appreciate any info you can provide. Thank you.

Hi LYNNF,

In La palma the town is at the end of the harbour pier although it is about a half mile walk. Quite a quiet place, when we stopped on a Sunday half of it was closed.

In Lanzarote the nearest town/beach was about 10 mins away by coach/taxi. We went to the beach at costa teguise which was about 20 mins drive away. Nice beach no charges, used alot by brits and other europeans for annual vacations. Lots of bars around the beach, very good area for windsurfing.

Tenerife harbour is 10 mins walk from santa cruz town. Santa cruz is at the north of the island, hot but often cloudy. The blue skies and extremly hot areas are all down south. Playa de las americas and los christianos are the large tourist areas in the south.

Madiera is a wonderful island, the town is only a few minutes walk from the harbour. There is a cable car ride that takes you up the hill above the town which gives exceptional views of Funchal. When you get to the top take the toboggan ride back down the hill. There is also a helicopter ride available which is based just outside the harbour.

Hope this has been of some use to you, enjoy your cruise,

Cheers,

As previous poster says, Madeira is easy to do on your own. Take the cable car up to the top (Monte) and you can visit the magnificent gardens at the top with spectacular views. You can take the cable car back down or go down in the toboggans.

La Palma is a relatively easy stroll, as is Tenerife (but we have had shuttles provided into town here if you need one.) Lanzarote is too far to walk - would echo about Costa Teguise. There is a nice trip to Jameos del Agua - underground cave/gardens which is very pleasant.
