Casino on the Emerald

Well, lots of questions here, we were on the Emerald transatlantic in April so spent LOTS of time there in the casino. I never used quarters, always put in paper money and then what I won put back on my room card (super easy....just enter a pin) and then you could pop it into another machine and VOILA, your money was transferred. We won some and lost some but overall had a blast there. They have tons of penny, nickle and quarter machines.

I do think I saw some nuts trying to play with tokens as I think that is what the machines pay out with, but I kept scratching my head wondering why they wanted all those dirty tokens when you could go cashless? When you get through playing, take your room card to the cashier and they give you your money. How easy is that?:D

Actually, I did try to explain to some people the concept of putting your money on your card and going cashless, but for some reason they kept thinking it meant you were CHARGING something to your room. They never got it!

Hope you have a wonderful cruise, the Emerald is FABULOUS!

Well, I think us "nuts" playing with tokens were doing so to avoid the 3% fee for charging casino cash to your room card. I didn't realize you could hand over cash, assign it to your card and avoid the fee, but play cashless. So, a good tip for next time! ;)

The system works well...you put in a bill, pick a PIN#, & when you move out the balance stays on your card.

Works best if one remembers to cash in at the end of the cruise.

thanks for the tips. We are looking forward to spending some time in the casino. this will be our first time on the Emerald. Our past experiences on other Princess ships has been: we have all our luck at the beginning of the cruise, by the end of the cruises, those machines are tighter than a drum.

Just a tip. If you don't want to get your hands dirty, just forget the tokens. Go through the instructions on the machine and open a casino account, no need to put any money on your shipboard account to do this. Just put a bill in the machine, and then cash it out TO YOUR CARD and you can move to any machine you want, put in as much or as little that is left on your card as you wish, and keep your hands clean this way. ;) Your still using the money you brought to the casino, just in bills instead of in coins. Once you get the hang of this, which takes only minutes, it is wonderful.

I never win in any of Princess' casinos.:( However, I do like the casino on the Emerald. There are more slot machines and a few more tables. I also like the layout as it gave me a little bit more of a Vegas flavor - where of course I do win! Now if only I could get Vegas to float!:p

Good luck to you and enjoy your cruise.
