Last Minute Questions from First Timer

I am heading out on the Vision of the Seas in a few days for the Mexican Riviera 7 day. I have a few questions that I cannot seem to find the answers to.

 

1) PArking @ the Cruise Terminal in LA.... How Expensive is it? Is it Safe? Is there any alternatives. We are driving down.

 

2) We are at the Late dinner service, I noticed after I booked the late service that the First Service was closed.... Is that a better service? Am I still going to be able to go to the shows?

 

3) Are the Salon Services worth it... I was going to get a pedicure before I go, but thought maybe I would Get it done on the ship. Is it worth it? Do they have you sit in the big tubs with with the vibrating chairs, I can't stand those....

 

4) Does anyone know how I can get a tour of the ship?

Well, as to the spa services, they are more expensive on average than the same treatments on land, but it is up to you whether you think it's too expensive. My wife thinks it's too expensive but she still books a couple of things at the spa on every cruise. If you choose to stay onboard on port days, they do have port day specials.

 

Also, as far as the early vs. late seating, don't worry, you made the right choice. Shows are schedule early and late so that both seatings get to see them. Also, on port days, it can be difficult to get back onboard and change in time for early dinner.

We paid $12/day for the three-night Monarch cruise at the World Cruise Terminal - I assume that is where you will be parking also. The parking is a fenced compound right across from the terminal. Seems safe.

 

2) We are at the Late dinner service, I noticed after I booked the late service that the First Service was closed.... Is that a better service? Am I still going to be able to go to the shows? We have always enjoyed the late seating. Allows for more relaxed afternoons, especially on port days. We did early seating once, but did not care much for it. One person's opinion. And yes, you will be able to see all of the shows and special receptions, if any.

Do they have you sit in the big tubs with with the vibrating chairs, I can't stand those.... Can't speak from experience, but DW thought the manicure/pedicure charges were high. She always has her digits done locally just prior to leaving for port. When we sailed out of Galveston a couple of months ago, the women in the group arranged for a group appointment the afternoon before we sailed.

 

4) Does anyone know how I can get a tour of the ship? I am not aware of any private or public tours. Usually a basic deck plan is available near the guest relations desk the first day and you can do your own tours. IMHO, this is more fun anyway. Kinda like your first time at Disneyland. You can also view the deck plans on the RC website and in their brochures.

PS I know I'm an over planner.... I've already been on that thread today... still can't relax... I'll relax when I get there :) Yeah, planning can get the best of you at times. Just take a deep breath, and enjoy the anticipation - for us it is just as fun as the cruise itself.

With the second seating, sometimes the shows are scheduled before dinner and sometimes after. You will have the opportunity to see them. We enjoy late seating as well. Families with children tend to prefer 1st seating.

 

IMO, the ships charges for a manicure and/or pedicure are very high! Personally, I would get it done before the cruise, and save some of that money for the casino or other spa treatments (which are higher than on land too!).

 

You'll get to know your way around the ship quicker than you would think. Arrive early on the first day. That is a good time to just wander and explore the ship. The ship doesn't offer any type of behind the scenes or bridge tours (except to Diamond plus cruisers).

Usually the shows are before dinner for the second seating. (after dinner for the main seating)
