besides all your provisions, you neglected to bring a few important items

Your own coffeee maker (the coffee on the ship tastes lousy)

By your post... it appears that HAL allows coffee makers? it's either Princess or Celebrity that doesn't allow them in the room. So... HAL does, right??

In addition to all the items you mentioned, I always bring a large SIPPER for the pool area. I drink a lot of iced tea during the day, and it's a perfect so you don't have to get up and down for refills!

My foolish list was only a SPOOF. I bring NOTHING on the ship, just my suitcase. If I was to cart margarita machines, coffee makers,my own personal mugs, soda, water, wine, egg crate mattresses.

The luxurious feeling of going on a cruise would evaporate and it would

seem more like a camping trip. Ugh the hair on the back of my neck just stood straight up,Pipedreams62 DOES NOT CAMP!:)

I don't think you could find a good correlation between the liquor policy changes and the number of people that have gone overboard, statistically speaking.

That's why I wrote, "Figures lie and liars figure. Go figure.":D

Gee there goes that amazing profit of $15:rolleyes: .

Lorene-----cf_chuck forgot to mention the cost of supplying and washing the glass (along with occasional breakage) which takes the profit down even further. :)

I would only bring a coffee maker on Princess, HAL's coffee isn't that bad.

I wouldn't bring a blender but come to think of it, one of those Braun mixer rods and a big cup could work well.'I would bring 2 large plastic glasses for drinks on the balcony ad the ship's glasses need to be refilled quite often and I would have to get myself up to do it rather than watching the swell behind the ship.

I don't see the need to haul a case of bottled water on board but my partner believes it's better. Why do we need 48 bottles for a 10 day cruise? When I can get by on 1 1.75 bottle of Mount Gay?

Is CF Chuck related to 2 buck Chuck?

How mmany of us older drinkers on HAL fall overboard? We can't even climb up to the railing. I think that is only a phenomenon on Carnival and RC. And I doubt it happens to passengers over 50.

I think smugglers are better customers at all the bars on board ship as they enjoy a drink anywhere besides their cabins. I buy drinks at the pool, in the lounges before and after dinner, at the theatre, in the casino and even on HMC where the drinks are really bad. I have now started saving the empty water bottles and put my own rum punch in them to drink on the Cay. Since it's usually the last day I want to use up any leftover rum and you don't go thru security leaving the ship. I'll bet my bar bill against any non smuggler.

Nope. Nice thought though, could use the money to cruise.

Of the 5 reported HAL overboard incidents since 1995, 3 are pax over 50. The other 2 were crew members under 50, one a known suicide. Carnival and RCI have the highest branded cruise line numbers of reported overboard incidents since 2000 with 30 and 17 respectively.

HAL sets out their rules regarding alcohol very clearly both on their web site and in the Know Before You Go book. Any cruiser planning a HAL sailing should read this information ... long before booknig. It's readily available online.

I searched HAL's site and also googled the phrase "Know Before You Go" and could not find this booklet/article. Could someone possibly post a direct link? Thanks so much!

Yeah, but it tastes like coffee, which is why I drink it. :) If I wanted to taste hazel nuts, I'd eat hazel nuts. ;)

I hear ya....:)

I like coffee...just plain coffee , not Mocha mint, irish cream, french Vanilla.

I like Beer...no limes, no honey wheat , no Cherry ale . BEER...

The only thing I like with both my coffee and my beer, is a cigarette *LOL*

Here's the info from HAL's web site:

"Bringing Alcoholic Beverages Onboard

Except for wine and champagne, alcoholic beverages purchased in the vessel's shops or otherwise brought on the ship cannot be consumed on the ship. Bottles and other containers will be collected for safekeeping and delivered to your stateroom on the last day of the voyage.

A corkage fee of US$15.00 applies to wine and champagne brought to the restaurants or bars for consumption.

Room Service offers reduced-price stateroom beverage packages for in-stateroom consumption of alcoholic beverages. "

If you go to the HAL site and do a search on alcohol, it is the first hit.

There's a very troubling trend in the institution of the alcohol policy now in force since 2002. Prior to the time the policy was implemented, the number of pax and crew that went overboard was fairly low. After the institution of the policy, the number of overboard incidents has grown for CCL and peaked at 11 in 2005 and 2007. From 2000 - 2002 HAL had no overboard incidents. The first year after implementation, HAL had 2 incidents and has 2 in subsequent years up to now.

On HAL's website, I searched "liquor" and came up with the following:

Do they bring that rot gut onboard and pay a corkage charge or do they buy it from the ship? Isn't there a law that says that sparkling wine labeled champagne must come from Champagne region of France and other stuff be labeled "sparkling wine"?

when did you ask for information?

Your first and only post was to rant at pipedreams62.

Perhaps you have come back under a new name.

You are very insightful.

I think this has been happening a little too often lately.

*Some* people just can't stay away.
