Well we are doing a 2 day cruise to get the cost of a recent deposit on a future cruise before we knew about the change in smoking. I also had called and our TA also tried, but no we were told "use it or lose it"period. DH smokes on the balcony, and so this 2 day cruise will be our last with Celebrity. there are many other cruiselines that do let you smoke on the balcony. I can undrstand in the cabin because of the smell and the extra time it takes them to clean it, and I have asthma so there is no smoking in our house. but thats his pleasure, he is disabled and so I will not take that away from him.

I have had a 14 day Med cruise booked on Celebrity for quite some time and as a smoker had a balcony cabin reserved. Now that we will no longer be able to smoke in our cabin or on our balcony, I have purchased an electronic cigarette that which is satisfactory and CAN be smoked in the cabin or on the balcony. It is well worth the money spent. For info, go to http://www.crown7.com if you are interested. At least this will make my cabin time bearable until I can get to the proper location to smoke.

Anyone think they will actually enforce the rule?

They also will not enforce chair hogs, babies in diapers in the pool, jeans in the dining room, etc. , so I think when they start actually picking on the smokers they are going to have to have some customers up in arms, unless they enforce ALL of the rules.

Also, can "staff and entertainers' smoke in their rooms or their balconies? Bet you they can.

Can't wait to see how this really plays out as far as enforcement goes.

If you read Celebrity President & CEO Dan Hanrahan's quote carefully, you will see that he wants to reduce the number of cruisers on their ships by 10 percent. Ninety percent are non-smokers.

Yes, I do think they will enforce the policy. And thank goodness. We had an aft facing verandah on our last sailing and the number of cigar and cigarette smokers back there was offensive. We often could not use our verandah because of all of the smoke. One day it even set off the smoke alarm in our stateroom.

The Asst. Chief Housekeeper DID in fact enforce the rules, after we brought the problem to her attention. The smoking policy will make it a much more enjoyable cruise.

Ok, I smoke, shoot me!

DH doesn't, so I smoke on the Veranda. Now I guess I wont, but can anyone tell me where they are going to put the 2 ashtrays for the smokers?

I want to be able to book my room closer to that area so when I do want to smoke I can run up there and light up.

Bad addiction, but it is a reality.

Well, maybe it will be three ashtrays! (Just laughing with you, not at you):D

From reading the announcement, it seems that the public rooms (except for the dining areas, spa, cinema and theatre) will still have one side that is smoking. For example, half of Cova Cafe has always been smoking, as well as the lounges, etc.

Smoking is only going to be permitted on one side of one indoor lounge per ship. I do not think it will be the Cova Cafe as this is a wide open area. Michael's Club is what many have been predicting will be the one lounge that allows smoking. There will also be a small smoking section in the casino (part of the slot area) and in designated outisde public areas.

Believe me the other 10% will be quickly filled in by more non smokers...all that fuss about everyone leaving Celebrity....our cruise in Jan is still nearly sold out...so it "Ain't Happenin Dude" I was considering cancelling ours when I read they allowed smoking in cabins & verandas....but now I won't have to!!!:D

Just curious what rules they enforced since you didn't mention. The new smoking policy is not in effect yet and smoking has always been allowed in staterooms and on veranda's . Additionally, up until a few months ago cigar smoking was not prohibited on veranda's.

Celebrity isn't my favorite cruise line, only because I prefer a more casual and relaxed atmosphere. But this improvement means we'd be assured that after paying extra for a balcony, we'd actually be able to enjoy it (unlike our Princess cruise in May). So Celebrity is definitely on our list for consideration (and we won't book a balcony again on any line that allows smoking on them).
