discover scuba?

My husband and I are taking our first cruise on Dec. 12 on the NCL Dream. We want to book the discover scuba trip through shoretrips.com. Has anyone taken this excursion or the one from the boat? How was it? Worth the money? Pros and cons?

Trisha,

I can't comment on the shoretrips.com or whatever you'd book through NCL as I've not been with them. But I have been to Roatan many, many times on dive trips (I'm an avid diver). The island is outstanding for a beginner or a "discover" type dive.

*The dive sites are very near the shore, so you don't have seasickness concerns that might develop on a long boatride in a smaller dive boat.

* The reef in many places is in quite shallow water (essentially at the surface in many locations, and likely 20 feet or so where they'd take a discover group).

* The water is warm, so you won't get too cold.

* There is usually little current or wave action around most of Roatan, so it's safer than places with those variables.

There are some good dive shops on the island; you could probably save some $$ by booking direct with one as opposed to booking through the ship.
