kentlady Posted July 20, 2008 #1 Share Posted July 20, 2008 Hi everyone. We are going on our very first cruise on the Crown 5th October and are really excited. We have been following the boards for some time now and have picked up some really good tips. We have booked a couple of excursions through Princess, but think when we get to Grand Turk we would like to do our own thing as I am not into snorkeling etc. Can you please offer any suggestions what we should do and see when we get there

We have booked a couple of excursions through Princess, but think when we get to Grand Turk we would like to do our own thing as I am not into snorkeling etc. Can you please offer any suggestions what we should do and see when we get there Hi Kentlady and welcome to Cruise Critic. What might be of help to you is go back to what I call the Table of Contents and scroll down to Ports of Call forum and find Grand Turk. There is a wealth of info there. Also while you are at the Table of Contents, scroll also to Roll Call forum and find your cruise. it is easy to do and you can chit-chat with fellow cruisers who will be on your cruise. There is a lot of info on these boards and the Table of Contents has a whole list of different areas. Another good one is the North American Homeport section where you can find info on hotels, car rentals etc. Hope this helps you. Marilyn
vickie_bernie Posted July 20, 2008 #3 Share Posted July 20, 2008 welcome to cruise critic, check out the roll call boards for not only Grand Turk but all the ports, you will find a wealth of information. When we first started cruising we did ship sponsored tours, but with more cruises under our belt we now only do independent tours, most of which we find thru cruise critic and recommendations and have never had a major problem, less crowded that ship's tour, less expensive, and more personable, and you skip the middle man. tvaud Posted July 20, 2008 #4 Share Posted July 20, 2008 There is not much to see in Grand Turk at this point....but, they do have a museum in town with a replica of the Mercury capsule, Friendship 7, that splashed down nearby back in the early 60's. There is a horse drawn carriage ride around the island, and horseback riding at the beach and in the surf. Margaritaville is a big attraction that is just off the pier. They have a huge pool with lots of lounge chairs and it's right on the beach. There is also food, drinks and entertainment there as well as shopping. Grand Turk is still unspoiled for now...but I'm sure the developers will dig in soon.:(
BigGuy25 Posted July 20, 2008 #5 Share Posted July 20, 2008 tvaud has is right. We like Grand Turk ... but it's primarily a beach day, either right at the Cruise Center or at one of the islands other beaches. There is not much art, culture or shopping (other than at the Cruise Center) on the island.
kentlady Posted July 20, 2008 Author #6 Share Posted July 20, 2008 Thanks a lot for all your replies they are really helpful, looks like it will be a beach day. We are fllying out from England 5 days before we cruise and are going to spend the time in Ft Lauderdale, we have been to various parts of the States before but never to that area. 1932Canal Posted July 20, 2008 #7 Share Posted July 20, 2008 Hi, When we visited Grand Turk we found, as other posters have stated not much, however, for US$40.00 we took a Taxi Tour of the island and then ended back at Margaritaville for a drink before boarding the Ship. We found the prices in the 'Duty Free' to be very good. Otherwise, do the 'beach thing'
