transatlantic fan Posted July 20, 2008 #1 Share Posted July 20, 2008 We have a Transatlantic booked for July 6th 2009 from New York to Southampton and have a B6 Stateroom. We have just had a Q7 on a 2 night cruise to France and we both loved it so much we are thinking of changing our booking to either a P1 or Q6. What we would like to know is what side of the ship would you get more sun on the balcony and what would the chances of an upgrade from a P1 to a Queens Grill stateroom be?. Any help would be much appreciated

Hi I was also on that 2 nighter to Cherbourg, wasn't the sailaway from there wonderful? I'm so sorry I missed meeting you. You should book the starboard side of the ship for sun (from the UK, port out, starboard home) on an eastbound TA. As for the upgrade, always book the grade you would be happiest in, then, if an up-grade happens, fine. If not, and you remain in the grade of cabin you've booked, then you've not lost anything and you'll be happy anyway. Never depend on the up-grade fairy, she may not visit... Have a great time, and once again, sorry we didn't meet.
pb82 Posted July 20, 2008 #3 Share Posted July 20, 2008 What we would like to know is what side of the ship would you get more sun on the balcony and what would the chances of an upgrade from a P1 to a Queens Grill stateroom be?. On an eastbound crossing the cabins on the starboard side (they are the odd numbered ones) face south. So, if it isn't cloudy or foggy, they will get more sun. We've booked PG cabins four times on the QM2. Our only upgrade occurred on our first trip, to a Q5. But it was to a handicapped accessible Q5, which is no fun if you are not handicapped: no walk-in closet, no dressing table, no tub. Luckily, on the second day, someone in a regular Q5 who really needed the handicapped accessible features traded cabins with us. Here are our mementos of back-to-back crossings in 2006. Bon Voyage, and good luck on an upgrade.
transatlantic fan Posted July 20, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted July 20, 2008 Thanks Pepper, The Sailaway was fantastic so many people came out to see the ship. We will probably book the p1 and if we dont get an upgrade pay the extra nearer the time if any cabins are still available a month or so before. Think we will go for the starboard side on the way home so we will also get a great view of the city as we leave. We are going over on June 25th having the 5 days in New York then coming home on the 6th July. We only have a B3 on the way out but have now decided to treat ourselves to one of the grill cabins coming home. We have just got off the Qe2 this morning adter the 3 night trip, this was also a fantastic time, only 11 months till the next one. Sorry we missed you, would have been nice to have met you. Nerina Posted July 20, 2008 #6 Share Posted July 20, 2008 We will be doing our 1st TA on the QM2 next August. As newbies on the QM2 we are traveling in an Atrium cabin. Any advise - good or bad - is greatly appreciated. We are not new to cruising, just to the QM2 and would like to hear others impressions on such things as the cabins, activities, dining, dress (day & evening) & anything else you think might help us plan for this cruise. I'm in the process of adding pictures from the voyage to Cherbourg, and, of course, I will be adding photos from the trip to Hamburg (that starts one week today, can't wait!). Pam Along with reading Pepper's EXCELLENT review, read this lengthy thread: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=104597 starting at the beginning and you will learn so much about the QM2. There are also some threads about the atrium cabins with photos. Explore this forum and you will find wonderful information about the ship. Have a wonderful crossing.
