I have a question about train travel in Italy. Can unused train tickets be turned in and refunded prior to date of travel at any train station? Our TA (not of our choosing as this was a gift--long story) could not get us on the train that we wanted form Florence to Rome, so she purchased tickets (she told us there were only 2 train times each day between Florence and Rome..we KNEW that could not be the case....anyhoo...) We are booked later in the morning than we wanted to be leaving and so I want to purchase tickets at the earlier time and then see if I can turn in the tickets that she got for us when we get there.

 

Would this work?

The railroad's own website shows the refund rules:

That said, get to an Italian railroad ticket windows as soon as you can and see if they will simply exchange the reservation for an earlier train.

THanks for the info, Paul. I am going to see if the TA will exchange the tickets herself...if not we will do it when we get there (hopefully precruise if time allows).
