inkmahm Posted July 21, 2008 #1 Share Posted July 21, 2008 We'll be on the land portion of our tour August 18-23 and the cruise from August 23-30 from Whittier to Vancouver. At home, we'd be getting a bit of Fall color by the end of August/early September. That made me wonder about the timing in Alaska. When are the Fall colors usually out? Budget Queen Posted July 21, 2008 #2 Share Posted July 21, 2008 Denali Park, but you are probably too early?? The "season" is extremely short for the colors and my Sept trips, have always had the colors, my August trips, seldom, and those were the last week, never in mid August. inkmahm Posted July 21, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted July 21, 2008 Thanks! I thought we might be a bit too early but also guessed that there wouldn't be much length to the season so I thought maybe the end of August ... oh well, a future trip goal! cjnky Posted July 21, 2008 #4 Share Posted July 21, 2008 We were in Denali 8/22 last year and had some beautiful fall colors around Fish Creek. A week later, we ran into more around Delta Junction. So don't give up hope!
LML Posted July 21, 2008 #5 Share Posted July 21, 2008 If you look at the mountains, above the tree line, you will see the lichens turning creamy colored later in the summer, and the start of the fall colors will start to turn red. You will probably see this in August if you look for it.
inkmahm Posted July 22, 2008 Author #6 Share Posted July 22, 2008 Thanks for the info! We'll be looking for color but won't be too disappointed if we don't see it. I was more curious than anything else guessing that Fall in Alaska would be much earlier than Fall at home.
