Ocruise Posted April 10, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 10, 2004 Hi all. I have a question, I have'nt been to Florida during the winter in over a deckade, what's the weather like when you cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale around Feb 20th? We are thinking of taking RCCL's Jewel of the Sea that week. It goes to Cayaman, Costa Maya, Key West & Cozumel. Will it be warm enough to swim in the ocean then? Will Key West be cold during that time? I ask this because all our cruises have been in the summer months. It seems like it will be nice to cruise in Feb. We are from NY & it will be freezing, what a nice change of weather, (I hope +)! ~ Marina
lmmn Posted April 10, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 10, 2004 It is very unpredictable in February. The weather can be very nice, but it can also be very cool. cerving Posted April 10, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 10, 2004 We are also considering taking the same cruise. We always cruise the end of Feb. 9 out of 10 times cruising that week we have had great weather. You just never know. One thing you can be sure of is that the weather will be better than at home. cruzenbabe Posted April 10, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 10, 2004 It is so true you just cannot predict the weather. Just came back off the Carnival Spirit Feb 19th sailing. As we all do, I kept checking the weather for Florida a week going into the cruise. Everyday I was checking to see what it was. Well it was in the 80's the week before my cruise. And wouldn't you know when we arrived in Ft Lauderdale it was 55 and we were freezing outside waiting for the shuttle to come. We all had on spring jackets, but, I wish we had coats. We arrived a day before our cruise and was staying in South Beach. I wanted to sit on the beach and relax a day before our cruise but that was impossible. We did go stand on the beach and look out at the water. It was so windy, I just snuggled between my husband and son arms. We planned on clubbing a bit, but, it was too cold for our club clothes. Anyway, the next day was a little warmer in the late 60's and sunny. But, I'm glad we were headed for the Southern islands, because the first 2 days at sea was really rough and cold. By the 3rd day it was warm enough to get in the pool. February can be tricky, just as other months can be. But, it was better than being at work and my son said it was better than being in school. dy208 Posted April 10, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 10, 2004 We took the Feb 22 cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale to W. Carib this year. It was a BIG disappointment (on weather) because we missed Cayman Island (rough sea) and all water sports were cancelled in Mexico (rough sea and cold wind). Hooked on cruisin' Posted April 11, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 11, 2004 Hi Ocruise, We have already booked for the 20th of Feb. on the Jewel. I have sailed a few times in March and had perfect weather. I have also sailed in Sept./Oct. (hurricane season) and had perfect weather. I guess it's just the luck of the draw. However, I will be cheking this post praying that I see a greater percentage of "nice weather" posts!
