I see that you know alot about this area and have lots of good information and have helped alot of people with their questions.

I will be coming into Santiago Feb 1 and am staying on the NW side of town. Would I do better pricewise to get a taxi or shuttle to hotel? There are 4 people with 4 large bags and will be going to the Best Western Los Espanoles (Providencia) We are going to stay there 1 night and will come down to Concon (Radisson Aqua Hotel & Spa) for 1 night. I am considering renting a car and doing some wineries on the way to the 2nd hotel. Is it easy to get to the pier from Vina? We will drop off the car there and cruise out on the 3rd.

Thank you in advance.

Why don't you just rent the car at the airport when you arrive (Advantage) and not worry about shuttle/taxi, etc???? You will have to get back to the airport to rent the car, anyhow. So save a few dollars on taxis/shuttles and certainly some time and hassle-just rent the car when you first arrive in SCL.

Advantage is the only agency I know that you can do a one way rental. The drop off for Advantage in Vina is about a 5 minute ($15.00) taxi ride from the pier. You may have to get 2 taxis to get all the bags to the ship. Some of the taxis are VERY small. And don't forget Chilean pesos for the toll road south of Santiago. It is MAJOR hassle to try to pay with US dollars. Enjoy!!!

Thanks for your answers. I have a one way rental through Alamo. The car is $198 per day. LOL the taxes and fees are 25% more than the car. We have a large SUV that should hold us all and the bags. This is where I pick it up:

SANTIAGO DOWNTOWN

AVE FRANCISCO BILBAO 2846

COMUNA PROVINCIA

SANTIAGO, .

CHILE

Advantage was #30 less but not as big of a car. Is gas high there?

Do you still think it's better to have the car 2 days?

Also, can individuals get into the wineries or do you have to be with a tour?

Whoa!!!! Expensive rental car. Advantage (actually Rosselot in Chile) is usually about $100 per day for one ways. Mitsubishi Galants (which is Chevy Impala size with HUGE trunks) and a mid size SUV (looks kind of like a Chevy Tahoe) are both available at the Santiago airport. I have never gotten the SUV, but have had my share of Mitsubishi's. Alamo must be charging a drop fee. I was unaware that Alamo would even do a one way rental. But for that price, I will stick with Advantage.

Your choice on having the car two days-I was just trying to save you the taxi/shuttle fare from the airport and the hassle of moving luggage into a taxi, then out again. I am sure you have suitcases that you probably won't use until you are on the ship.

There are all kinds of vineyards to tour. Check out these links:

And two of the more famous wineries:

This is MY favorite (not so much for the wine (I'm not a wine drinker) but for the grounds, the polo, and the ambiance. The carriage rides are spectacular:

Thanks for these links. I can hardly wait.

I checked Advantage, they show the SUV to be $165. Crazy for one day. The taxes and fees were $125. I still think it must be less expensive than shuttles and tours.

Do you know anything about Concon? Is it far from the cruise peir?
