need help to find travel insurance

Does anyone know a company that will cover two ancient cruisers( 70 and76) and will also cover a pre existing condition!!!!. My husband had an op In June, is now recovering and needs a holiday. Most companies will not give cover if the person has had an op in the last 12 months. I've found one that will give us cover but not before 2 months of sailing..I want to go on Arcadia in Nov but by september I'll be lucky to find availability . Help please, any suggestions?

Depends what you want the cover for - if its to cover cancellation then yes you would have to get it or close to booking (you could get it later, but then the decision is when). As I understand it, the cruise line doesn't care when you get it, just that you have it on sailing (so I guess upto a few weeks before sailing would be ok)

However when I had the pre-existing condition issue I only wanted to be sure I was covered for medical emergencies at sea. So on a couple of occasions didn't take the (additional) cancellation cover, which with the pre-existing condition was quite expensive. If I needed to cancel, it seemed the money would be the least of my worries. (Though obviously everyone will be different here)

Try All-Clear-Travel

AllClear Travel provides medical travel insurance for pre-existing medical conditions whilst also offering standard travel insurance to cover family and friends.

Our specialist holiday insurance also covers elderly or over 75s travellers with pre-existing medical conditions

They are on http://www.allcleartravel.co.uk (not using FireFox apparently!)

(They will/may even insure if you have more tests in the pipeline - at a cost!)

And FreeSpirit

(I've not used these, but only because I found All-Clear first)

I have used All-Clear-Travel & now, I'm insured with the Post Office - they do pre-existings (with an extra phone call & presumably at extra cost), but it turned out their exclusion period was different (I'm no longer having treatment), so was able to get an ordinary policy.

Both of them I was able to deal with online & by phone as necessary.

Hope some of this helps

Hi Karen, thank you so much for that clear and helpful reply. I'm sure other people will find it useful too. I'll let you know how I get on. What would we do without CC and all the clever cruisers that help us out.

Thanks again, Daff.

I can echo the above. Travelling on Arcadia this weekend for one week cruise taking 76yr old mother in law with quite a few health problems. She managed to get her insurance through Age Concern for about £80. Hope this is helpful.
