Where is the Market Place in OSJ?

Is there an outdoor market place to buy local created stuff?

If you are there on a week-end, you may find some items near the tourist

building on the waterfront or in the park on Plaza de Armas. The Puertorican Arts on Fortaleza in a building has many beautiful things. To the

best of my knowledge, there is not a regular marketplace like you find

on some islands.

There are some outdoor and indoor areas where you can buy Artcraft in the historic district but there is not a Market Place per se.

Yes, there is a market place. And, yes, they do sell locally made crafts.

It is called Plaza Del Mercado or "La Placita". You might want to "Google"

this to find out more about it. We plan to go there on our cruise in

september.

The Placita is more of a Farmers Market, rather than a craft place. It has fresh produce and similar items. Also lots of great restaurants around it. But not really crafts....

You will find local artisans set up all around the Casita in OSJ and other areas around OSJ.

Unlike other islands, you will not find a large flea market kind of place, with people trying to get you to buy the same stuff in every stall.

The artisans set up tables with their hand made crafts on tables. There are also a number of stores that sell Puerto Rican crafts and hand made objects. There is little or no bargaining here.

Oh yeah, and the Placita (Mercado ) is not in OSJ, it is a taxi ride away- in San Juan.

 

If you do decide to go, there are lots of restaurants right there and it is pretty close to some art museums, so you can do a few things at the same time....
