ddunn Posted July 31, 2008 #1 Share Posted July 31, 2008 hey everyone.. What is the requirements now for cruising? Do you need a passport? We have ours, but we just realized our Granddaughter's expires in september. We are going on a cruise in sept, and I am not sure we can get it renewed by then. Can she get on ship with birth certificate? I know at one time passports were needed, then they put a delay on it..... What is it currently? Thanks! Philip217 Posted July 31, 2008 #6 Share Posted July 31, 2008 Passport is still not required to cruise so long as she has the proper ID and birth certificate. However you should be aware that she will not be able to fly back to the USA for ANY reason (like medical emergency) without a valid passport. It's a long bus ride from Belize to Florida with a broken leg.
lovinthesea123 Posted July 31, 2008 #7 Share Posted July 31, 2008 On the one parent only thing - Our family is in the same position, and if you write on the letter something like "fathers current wherabouts unknown", you will be fine (says the Customs officer at Port Canaveral :p)

Hurricane Girl Posted July 31, 2008 #9 Share Posted July 31, 2008 do u mean to obtain a passport, or to get on the ship???? Denise to obtain a passport.(I think)... You will be fine with her bc to get on the ship and have the court papers stating you have custody of the child. I would also have a notorized letter from the mother giving her permission to take her out of the country. I have used the notorized letters several times for three different children and have never been asked to see any of them...but you never know. Remember, as someone said...any medical reason and you would not be able to fly her back into the US. I hope this helps.
sixgun8 Posted July 31, 2008 #10 Share Posted July 31, 2008 just FYI now for those that are leaving and returning from US ports on cruise ships or just crossing the borders on foot, you can get the passport card now. Just like a license, but I beleive it is less expensive, so for the cruisers, it's a cheaper alternative that has all the benefits. It will not work, however, if you get left behind in port and decide to fly back to the US.
