WeirdEyes Posted October 20, 2004 #1 Share Posted October 20, 2004 I bought a deep purple suit for my cousin's wedding and I need advice on what color shoes....black or tan/cream? I say black because it is a deep purple, but one of my friends said tan/cream. Thanks ladies!!! :)
bld16 Posted October 20, 2004 #2 Share Posted October 20, 2004 I learned a long time ago that your shoes should never be lighter in color than your clothes or your nylons. I would go with the black.
WeirdEyes Posted October 20, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted October 20, 2004 Thanks! That's what I was thinking also. ;)
SxyEbnyFem Posted October 20, 2004 #4 Share Posted October 20, 2004 Just an idea: why not try to find purple shoes & matching handbag in the same shade of one another? Nothing wrong with mixing and matching purples. Purple just happens to be my favorite color and I do this all the time with some dressy outfits I have. Just last week, I bought these sexy jewel purple heels from Bakers at the mall. Also, the craze around my area are those clear heels. If all else fails, I would wear the black shoes. I am sure you will look fabulous in purple! :D Happy sailing, T.
WeirdEyes Posted October 21, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted October 21, 2004 Thanks "T" for the advice. I'll have to check into those purple shoes.
Mysteryreader Posted October 21, 2004 #6 Share Posted October 21, 2004 Years ago I saw a fashion magazine article giving advice for dressing if you're petite. (You're probably all getting tired of hearing I'm petite, right?) One piece of advice was to wear light-colored (close to your skin tone) shoes to make your legs look longer. They showed a model in a black dress with camel-colored shoes, and by golly it was true. Since then I've often worn light-colored shoes with darker colors for that reason. If your dress is long, I'd go with black; short, I'd try a lighter color. M/R
maryevelyn Posted October 21, 2004 #7 Share Posted October 21, 2004 Hi, I would definitely go with black. I think lighter shoes will draw attention away from the dress. Mary
JanetMarie Posted October 21, 2004 #8 Share Posted October 21, 2004 Hey there Sheila! If it were MY outfit, I would opt for the black shoes. I have always felt that black "goes with everything" as they ol' cliche goes... I think the lighter color shoes would be too noticable - know what I mean? lka1012 Posted October 21, 2004 #9 Share Posted October 21, 2004 I like the idea of purple shoes also. Or if you think you will wear the suit and shoes again, get a pair that can be dyed and dye them to match.
nosnobunny Posted October 21, 2004 #10 Share Posted October 21, 2004 I would go with either the nude or maybe a dark pewter colour. Beth
Rare KKB Posted October 21, 2004 #11 Share Posted October 21, 2004 You will get a "cleaner" line of color. Too much contrast w/ lighter shoes. Regarding purple shoes/bag...purple is hot. If you can get some w/ same base (some purples are stonger blue-base, others red-based), go for it. Green is a big color, often shown w/ purple this season. I'd avoid the dying....I think that went out w/ the 80s.....(hey, I used to work at a shoe store where we dyed shoes/bags....old news). You will NOT go wrong w/ black. A basic that matches most everything. Dark colors, dark shoes. Light colors, light shoes. JMO Kristin
lszu Posted October 21, 2004 #12 Share Posted October 21, 2004 I'd say either black or maybe metallic (silver, gold, pewter - depending on what you like better metal-wise).
happysinglemom Posted October 21, 2004 #13 Share Posted October 21, 2004 Definitely black. I do agree with the camel/tan thing - they do make your legs look longer - that is why that is my favorite color shoe! BUT - not with purple - only with lighter color clothes. WeirdEyes Posted October 21, 2004 Author #14 Share Posted October 21, 2004 Thanks for all of your advice! Now, I'm going to have a hard time deciding what to do. I think I'll buy several different colors and take them home, try on the suit with each one and see what looks best. I can take the ones I don't want back. ;)
