Vienna Choice...recommendation

During an upcoming trip, while in Vienna, we are given the choice of: "a visit to Schonbrunn Palace or a tour of the Imperial Silver Room in the Hofburg".

 

Any insights as to the options would be much appreciated.

Both are worth doing but you do not need a tour guide for either.

 

The Imperial Silver Museum is right in Hofburg palace and easy to find; should take 60 - 90 minutes to "do"

 

Schonbrunn Palace is a five minute walk from the Metro stop of the same name. English speaking tours are offered. Tickets for the metro are easy to purchase and the system is easy to navigate. You would want half a day to do the palace; there's a botanical garden nearby.

 

Watch for senior discounts if they apply to you for metro and most museums; senior is 60 years.

Having lived for several years in Vienna, Austria, I can confirm that both sites are absolutely worth visiting.

 

For the first-timers, though, I would go to the Schönbrunn Palace as it offers a greater variety, gardens, architecture and art treasures of its own.

 

It is very easy to get to the Schönbrunn Palace, but please, be aware of the fact that to get in, you do need a ticket. During the height of the season waiting time toi get the entrance ticket go up to 2 or even 3 hours.

 

Taking a ship's organized tour is somewhat more expensive (they are in to make income, too) but indefintely more comfortable and efficient.
