Leo Jay Posted August 5, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 5, 2008 I'm wondering how far the Metro stop is from where the ships dock, how long a trip it is to the L.L. Bean outlet by bus, and how pleasant/scenic a ride it is. If anyone's done it, please let me know. Thanks.
sopo pirates Posted August 5, 2008 #2 Share Posted August 5, 2008 Go to Metro's website: http://www.gpmetrobus.com to see more of their info of the 8A bus offered on most cruise ship dates. The route and days the bus is scheduled to run can be found on the "Services Programs" tab, then cruise ship. As for the route, it does go by some of the scenic locations in Portland and will drop you off very close to LL Bean's Outlet in Portland (not to be confused with their Flagship and Outlet's located in Freeport - 20 miles north). I've not taken the bus as I work on the pier, but have heard from many people over the years who've taken the bus as a way to get around town. Lots of people will ride the route in it's entirety to get a lay of the land, then get off on the next loop around at the site they want to start at. The area the bus route covers is walkable from your ship, if you enjoy leisurely walks. If however, you're hoping to get from point A to B in short order, especially if you've bought lots of stuff you now need to carry back, the bus is great. Metro picks up and drops off on Commercial Street, right at the head of the pier where the cruise ships tie up. Their all day ticket is wonderful as it allows you the freedom to come and go as you wish.
Leo Jay Posted August 6, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted August 6, 2008 Ah, thanks very much for the information and metro link. The Portland outlet is closer to the pier than I'd thought. I don't drive, so I don't think I'll be venturing out to the Freeport locations.
