NEUCruiser Posted August 5, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 5, 2008 I am really interested in booking a floatplane tour through Misty Fjords when we visit Ketchikan on 8/31. I got a late start making a reservation (there are 4 of us) and it seems like most of the vendors are already booked. For those that have been to Ketchikan- what is the likelihood that I would be able to book a flight the day we arrive at the pier? The ship offers a tour but it seems to be much more expensive. CarrieCA Posted August 6, 2008 #2 Share Posted August 6, 2008 I just got back last week. We booked our Misty Fjords tour through Princess -- didn't shop around because I was timid about anything going wrong with an independent tour company. Our tour was about 4 hours -- 3 hours on a tour boat (like a small ferry), then we transferred to floatplanes right in the middle of the lake and flew back. It was great and the scenery was awesome. I would suggest asking the tour companies if they have a waiting list, in case there are cancellations. Also, you can book through your cruise line and cancel later on if you need to -- Princess gave us up to about 36 hours prior to cancel. I hope you get to go -- it's great. floridatravelersforlife Posted August 7, 2008 #3 Share Posted August 7, 2008 We did just that on 7/27 at the tour shack right off the ship. Get there at 8 Am. We got seats at $208 each last minute. Times were slow at all ports. The safety procedures are excellent.
Budget Queen Posted August 7, 2008 #4 Share Posted August 7, 2008 There are many vendors that do Misty Fjords in Ketchikan. I do suggest you book this ahead if able. Did you try Island Wings or Southeast Aviation?? These are my vendor recommendations. It is possible to get walk up space, but may not be at a convenient time, or fully booked. You would have to be willing to be first off the ship and head directly to the dock visitor center and see what may be available.
SouthernCalCruiser Posted August 7, 2008 #5 Share Posted August 7, 2008 We're visiting Ketchikan the same day (Aug 31) and have booked the Misty Fjords Flightseeing tour thru Island Wings. We booked it thru the company direct. I believe they still had time slots available for we were given time options.
