Discover Scuba in Grand Cayman

My wife and I (and several friends & family) are going on the Carnival Legend October 26th, including a stop in Grand Cayman. We'd like to do the Discover Scuba tour - it isn't ofered in GC by Carnival so I'm now looking for other operators that give that tour and are recommended. Does anyone know of good operators for that in GC? Someone recommended Eden Rock to me - I haven't started looking into them yet. Anyone else?

Thanks,

Brian

Hey Brian

I looked at Legend shore excursions and they do offer what you are looking for, but they call it Beginners Scuba (go figure, everywhere else they call it Discover Scuba). Not sure if it would make it easier for you to book through the ship or if you would rather use an independent operator since doing that you usually seem to get better service. Anyway, here is the link.http://www.carnival.com/ShoreExcursionsSearchResults.aspx?portname=Grand+Cayman%2c+Cayman+Islands&portcode=CAY&region=CW

Hi,

I recommend sunset divers at sunset house resort (www.sunsethouse.com). They're a PADI Gold Palm and Five Star Instructor Training Facility so you know they know what they're doing and they'll be safe. Sunset House is a quick couple of minute taxi ride south of Georgetown and they have taxis back. Their diving is usually in their "house reef" which is easily entered from a dock from shore out into the water. They also have lockers for your "dry gear" so you don't have to worry about your valuables while you're in the water. Because they do shore dives, the timing is also usually up to you so you can start as soon as you sign in and not have to waste a 1/2 hour or more waiting on a boat schedule. But be aware, even discover scuba tours require you to be in good condition, not have any major medical conditions (like asthma) and be comfortable in the water. If you have a condition you're wondering will effect you in diving, call or write the dive shop. They're very friendly and will help in being prepared for your excursion (you also have to book these in advance so you'll need to contact them for pricing and availability anyway). Good luck and enjoy!

I've been reading through the threads and checking out the PADI site. Eden Rock, Divers Down, and particularly Sunset House comes recommended. I also suggest going privately vs. through the cruise ship. More flexible and able to negotiate that way.
