I don't think that there are any beaches that are close to town on the mainland. You need to take a tour or a water taxi to one of the islands.

 

You can get a water taxi or book a tour at the tender port. We went with Fab Tours to Bannister Island last year. Nice trip, gorgeous place. I heard that Fab has their own island now.

The tour that we had was $50 pp but it included snorkel gear and a trip to the reef. We had our own gear and I got them down to $40. They dropped people off at the island that didn't snorkel. Then took us on a snorkel tour for maybe an hour and returned us to the island for some beach time.

 

I don't know how much a water taxi is to Caye Caulker, but there is a thread on this board that has prices. Somewhere.:rolleyes:

After reading some really great reviews we are going to do an excursion through Coral Breeze Tours (google them). We are thinking of doing the Bannister Island tour, DD wants to do the manatee part and we like the snorkel/beach part :)
