bigpete47uk Posted August 7, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 7, 2008 Afternoon all, What is the procedure for disembarking at Southampton? Is it just a mad scramble for the exits or is there a particular time slot allocated for your disembarkation? I am concerned because I am booked on a train at 11-15am, when returning from Canaries on Ventura in September, and would not like to miss it as I have reserved seats.:( Is it possible to pre-book a slot if neccessary? Pete.
AbbyCruise Posted August 7, 2008 #2 Share Posted August 7, 2008 The procedure for arrival in Southampton is one of staggered disembarkation. All passengers are requested to out of their cabins by 08.30. Colour coded timed tickets are left in your cabin the evening before. The ship's paper will contain information regarding how to request an early slot - I can't remember if you go to reception or ask your cabin steward. You can also change your slot after getting the ticket by going to reception and requesting an alternative one. There is also a self service option of leaving earlier and carrying your own bags off the ship (ie not putting them out the night before for the cabin steward to remove). There may be a bit of crowd by reception or in the warehouse used for baggage claim but it would not be a mad scramble.
LibraLass41 Posted August 7, 2008 #3 Share Posted August 7, 2008 You train ticket time seems fine Pete. The latest disembarkation these days is 9.30am ish, so even if you had this one you have plenty of time to get to the station. And as mentioned, you can swop your card for a earlier one as well by going down to reception and telling them you have a train to catch, The card with your times on is delivered to cabin 24/48 hrs before the last day. Pontius Navigator Posted August 15, 2008 #5 Share Posted August 15, 2008 Our time slot today was 0930, there were slots at 0945 and 1000. We were called forward at 0910. We were on the road from the car park at 1020. BUT . . . In the warehouse the luggage was set out by decks. Our deck occupied about 4 double lines of luggage. It took us a while to track down all 4 pieces - out luggage was identical to everyone elses - Black with wheels - so get some identical but distinguishing markings and remember exactly what your luggage looks like. Then we all filed though a narrow double doors into the customs hall. By airport terms it was tiny. By airport terms it was also very busy. At least 4 passengers were undergoing a full rummage search. Remember, the Canaries are duty free ports and the old import rules - 1 bottle, 2l wine or fortified wine, 200 cigarettes etc apply. Many passengers were going through with plastic bags and hundreds of cigarettes. Of course you can buy them duty paid in Lisbon or Vigo but do expect to show customs that they are EC Duty Paid. LibraLass41 Posted August 15, 2008 #6 Share Posted August 15, 2008 Pete Yes, some still disembarking at 10am, if you find you have a card after 9am just go to reception and ask for a early card, if you tell them about the train I'm sure they will give you a swop!
