PG - Booking post-cruise

We are interested in do a post-cruise stay, I think at La Taha'a (but if people have really enjoyed Moorea Pearl or another, please do tell me about it!). The travel agent I have been working with suggested looking into booking the post-cruise independently instead of through Regent. Have people done this? How difficult is it in terms of logistics? I was pretty keen on the idea of having the cruise line take care of getting us to La Taha'a and then back to Papeete for our return flights. Also, the TA does cruises only so she can't help us actually book with the hotel. Any words of wisdom from people as to whether it is worth it to book outside of the cruise program and feedback on La Taha'a would be much appreciated.

Thanks!
