We have not been to europe ever...was wondering about purchasing a case or (two or three...) before boarding the Oosterdam in Venice...is there "wine shops" in Venice? In Canada (BC) there are liquor stores...sounds silly, but is there liquor stores in Venice?

If you walk over the Rialto bridge, going away from St Mark's square, you will come to a produce market on your right, adjacent to the canal. If you look on your left you will see a series of arched entryways. If you explore these, you will find an area where you can buy "wine to go", ie, they have huge casks that they fill bottles or whatever for you to take with you. It is not Montalcino, but interesting locally produced wine probably never available at home. We sampled several befor buying and enjoyed the experience.

This list is, in all fairness, just the "tip of the iceberg". Pearliemae described shops selling vini sfusi - open wine - perhaps not exactly what you had in mind.

As far as liquor, it is easy to purchase Italian liquors, but harder to find imported brands. And please accept my gentle forewarning that HAL passengers are not allowed to bring liquor on board. But please bring all the wine you want!

Thanks Palms2 for the links...

and yes, we were aware and do honour HAL rule - no smuggling any liquor onboard...we are appreciative of being allowed to bring unlimited wine onboard...

4 of us brought 3 cases of wine for our 21 day cruise last year...worked out perfectly for US.
