Cruising89143 Posted April 11, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 11, 2004 I just finished watching the Adventure OTS on the Travel Channel and I have a question for those of you in the know. I have booked a Junior suite on deck seven on the back of the Navigator. After seeing just how much of the steel girders stick out as you go lower on the ship has me concerned that it will block the view of the sea and also it seems that you are overlooking a crew deck or something too. Anyone with comments on this? Also, on the side of the ship, how deep are the balconies? Wondering if I would be better off with a side balcony in place of the aft. Thanks for your help. 2VaCruzers Posted April 11, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 11, 2004 Gordon...we just got off Navigator yesterday. We had an aft cabin on deck 9 and LOVED it. I wish I could help you w/ suggestions for deck 7 aft cabins. See if this site helps you. There are not only pics of aft balconies here, but regular balconies too. http://community.webshots.com/album/48328219CtbGLi/3 Until we navigate the Navigator
Cruising89143 Posted April 11, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted April 11, 2004 Thanks for the link. I am really concerned that our view will be of all that steel and of the crew deck below. 2VaCruzers Posted April 12, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 12, 2004 Cruisingator...I understand your concern. Our corner aft had SUCH a fabulous view. No beams, nothing!! Until we navigate the Navigator
RvrCrzr Posted April 12, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 12, 2004 Gator... Here are my pics from NAVIGATOR deck 7, aft corner. I have a shot looking sideways at your balcony. The balconies (aft are deep), like 8-10 ft. deep. The girders are in your site path, and so is the deck below. It's still an awesome view. Aft Nav Pics Judgement call, I guess. The corners are best. keasc Posted April 12, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 12, 2004 2vacruzsers, cabin 9390 is awesome isn't it? Who was your cabin steward? Nan59 Posted April 12, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 12, 2004 We are thinking of booking an aft on Navigator. Do the open between two cabins? We were on the Enchantment and opened doors between two balconies for one hugh balcony. Also, is this possible with the side balconies? Thanks! ccletzgo Posted April 12, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 12, 2004 I asked this same question. On the aft of the nav. I dont think its possible. Taking the walls out between balcony's I love aft cabins, but would carefully choose which one on this class of ship. All the structure on the back of ship, takes away from what an aft balcony is all about. (to me) I like them for the full sun exposure and the view of the ships wake. ON this class of ship, I would stick to the corners, or just in one from the corner
2VaCruzers Posted April 12, 2004 #9 Share Posted April 12, 2004 Nan59...as far as I know, you can't open the partitions between balconies. Until we navigate the Navigator
2VaCruzers Posted April 12, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 12, 2004 I agree w/ CCletsgo...we had a corner aft and there was no obstruction at all. The view was spectacular. keasc...our cabin attendant was Patrick. He did an excellent job and was totally friendly. RandS Posted April 12, 2004 #11 Share Posted April 12, 2004 2VACruzers - which deck 9 aft corner cabin were you in - 9390 or 9690. Do you have a picture of the balcony. Is there enough room for 5 to sit comfortably? Thanks. 2VaCruzers Posted April 12, 2004 #12 Share Posted April 12, 2004 RandS..we had 9390. The balcony is sort of pieshaped since you're on the end. There were 2 chairs, a lounger and a table. I think you'd be crowded w/ 5 people sitting, but certainly 5 adults could stand on the balcony and enjoy the view. I'm in the process of uploading my pictures right now. Will post when I can. kat9661 Posted April 18, 2004 #14 Share Posted April 18, 2004 ndjollymon, Thanks for the great photos of 7688. We are on the AOS this fall and just switched from 9390 corner aft to 7388 corner aft. For the extra balcony space and the cool side port hole window I thought this a good move. Do you agree? We doing a back to back and have 8392 for the following week but I'm checking daily for a corner aft to open up. We could have had 6688 for both weeks but I wasn't crazy about that deck area in front. scrustyrock Posted April 19, 2004 #15 Share Posted April 19, 2004 Hi, Those shots are the greatest of Navigator aft cabins. I was wondering if anyone might a picture of the Radiance Class aft cabins. I am in 1104 on The Radiance of the Seas in October. Thank Shipmate Sharon Campbell
RvrCrzr Posted April 19, 2004 #16 Share Posted April 19, 2004 Thanks... I loved it because it was mostly shaded, private, and faced two directions. Those girders are not even a factor. The view is spectacular! The shear size of the balcony is incredible! I spent a lot of time out there...day and night. What a view of the stars! Nan59 Posted April 19, 2004 #17 Share Posted April 19, 2004 How about 1388 and 1688 on deck? The balconies look like they might be closed in, but I'm told the two rooms are almost the same size as a junior suit. Anyone out there have info? Has anyone stayed in these rooms? Right now we have 1394, but we could save about $800 by moving to 1388 or 1688. Our travel agent has them all reserved for our group and she is just starting to reserve specific cabins. Thanks for any info.
Bonnie Voyager Posted April 19, 2004 #18 Share Posted April 19, 2004 I've stayed in cabin 1688 twice now and have it booked for a third time. It is definitely as large as a standard Junior Suite. You do have a normal sized bathroom though and less closet space than a Junior Suite but it was plenty of space for my Husband, Son (9) and I. The balcony is very large with both a sunny area and a shady area! Here's a link to my photos of the cabin/balcony. cabin 1688 photos Bonnie Voyager...a.k.a. Cruising89143 Posted April 19, 2004 Author #19 Share Posted April 19, 2004 Nice pictures Bonnie but was it my imagination or was one of those lounge chairs covered with dirt or mildew? I guess it was shadows being cast or something? I will say that the furniture was showing some age when I returned to cabin 1688 just last week, but nothing like you saw in that photo. I think it was an optical illusion! That photo was taken on my first cruise on Explorer, when the ship was just barely one year old! Bonnie Voyager...a.k.a. cruisnfool Posted April 20, 2004 #23 Share Posted April 20, 2004 CRUISNGATOR...we sailed in your room on the Navigator....the steel framework detracts from the openess of other ships but you still get the extra large balcony, the wider view and the wonderfull view of the wake. You get used to the framework afte a couple of days. IMO its still better than the side balcony for the size. We spend a fair amount of time on the balcony.
