hawaii cruise

Not the same port, but because it came from a foreign port. As long as the ship stops in a foreign port it can go from one US port the the next US Port.

That was not my question. But thanks anyway;)

Not sure he saw your question. He was telling you why a ship cant board passenger in one US port and unload them in a different US port withou stopping at a distant foreign port.

Princess is leaving and returning to the same port.

LOL! I think you are right.

So because they are leaving and returning from the same port (round trip from Los Angeles) Ensenada qualifies. Say they were leaving Los Angeles and returning to San Diego then Ensenada would not qualify:confused: And why?

Am I confusing everyone:p

Ok never mind, I didn't see your last post yst..............

Strongly considered Hawaii to Vancouver for the reasons you mention. Ultimately, decided that heading north to Vancouver in April would result in weather being a little too cool for me on those last sea days.

FWIW..I was looking at the 14 day RT on Princess too. But I could get a Cat 11 aft wrap for only slightly more cost per day then just a balcony on Princess.

And the trip to Ensenada will be part of the adventure! :D

Yea, our cruising friends had the same concern, I check the average temps and technically you are getting into Vancouver in May. Besides, our lifestyles include the casino, late shows and sleeping in a bit. They enjoy the on board activities and I might even have to get a bit of work done being gone that long (we own our own business). We did get one of those sunny aft balconies that hopefully will warm us a bit.

If you like the evening entertainment and sleeping in you should consider doing the Vancouver to Honolulu route in the fall. Doing it this way you will have 3 sea days 25 hours long as Honolulu is three hours behind the west coast during daylight saving time. If you sail from Honolulu to Vancouver you will have three 23 hour sea days, you might not be getting up till afternoon.

I cruised the "Norweigean Jade"....-er um I mean "Pride of Hawaii" in '06. I really wished that carnival would have been able to offer the 7 day itinerary, but I had a great time on the POH. The over-nights that are offered on that itinerary made that trip a very different experience. It was great. This is something you cant get with the other cruise lines. I've always wondered why carnival never attempted the same deal with a carnival ship. American crew, 7 days, no foreign port, year round.

Anyways, good luck and great cruising!

I think NCL proved its not a smart financial move.

Perhaps Carnival was afraid it would face the same challenges, and failings NCLA has faced?

Actually the law states that it is illegal for a foreign register ship to only include US ports. The ship can leave and return to the same or different US ports but must hit at least one non-US port that is why all of the Alaska cruise stop in Canada. When went to Alaska in 2004 we had to miss the Canade port due to weather and were required to anchor for ONE HOUR in Canadian waters in order not to be in violation on that law.

The one ship that does the Hawaiian Islands only is US register and has mostly (I forget what percent is required) American crew members.

That isn't accurate. If it were, ships could sail from Seattle, stop in Vancouver, or Victoria and continue on to Alaska and unload passengers. Ofcourse they can't for the reason I listed above if you care to read them.

Alaska cruises leaving from Seattle, or any other US mainland port must return to the same port in addition to stopping in a Canadian port or they will be in violation of the Passenger Services Act and will be liable for a $300/passenger fine.

But there are certain foreign ports that don't qualify. That's what our discussion was about;) This is why the Spirit Hawaiian cruise leaves or returns to/from Ensenada not San Diego;)

Oh of course, if it was an AFRICAN Swallow...but they aren't migratory now are they?

Jeesh, guys. Give it up. I'll concede, you all know more about the Passenger Services Act than I do (or care to).

Hey for what it's worth I learned something today, although it makes absolutley no sense whatsoever:p

It would make more sense for Carnival to add a extra day onto the Hawaii to Ensenada cruise........so they can stop in Cabo before coming back to San Diego:cool:

Except that would probably take more then one extra day:p

We did this cruise in 1999 but on a different ship. It started by us flying into Hawaii, hit the 5 islands and then 5 sea days heading to Vancouver. It is windy and cool heading to Vancouver. Our days by the pool didn't happen much. I will say that Vancouver was beautiful but it was raining and cool there.

Could you please give me some info. on where I find the bad reviews of those that were bused-to-Ensenada after their Hawaiian cruise because we have to take that long ride.:(

I may have read first read about it in some Member Reviews.

I hope that Carnival has ironed out the difficulties. I do have to wonder how many difficulties they can iron out, having been at the San Ysidro border crossing many, many times over the last 10 years or so. The wait at the border has just gotten worse and worse, as far as I can tell. No matter what time of day we've tried to cross the border, we haven't had a wait of less than an hour for the last 3 years. At the end of a vacation, it just would be such a downer!

But....the travel to and from ports is just one of those necessary evils in order to experience the joy that is cruising!! :)

I am also on the Oct 6 Hawaii to Ensenada cruise.

Call me crazy but I am looking forward to the bus ride to San Deigo. I am hoping to see some beautiful sights along the way. I am looking at it as a free little shore excursion. :D

There WILL be some beautiful views, especially just north of Ensenada (are you familiar with the area?). The highway runs along the coast, and if it isn't foggy, there will be some spectacular ocean views as it climbs up the mountainside.

It's the border crossing that I want to hear about!

We are on the Oct 6 sailing from Hawaii to Ensenada... and now this crossing the border is concerning me a bit.... since American changed our flights from 1:45 p.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Is there a better side of the bus to sit on to get the ocean views??

You will want to sit on the left side of the bus riding north from Ensenada to San Diego.

We had a clear sunny day for our ride from San Diego to Ensenada last April and the views were spectacular! Make sure you keep your camera handy.:)

Satman, come join us on the roll call for the Spirit 4-24-09. Several of us are also in the aft balconies. Would be nice to know your neighbors before sailing. You will find several of us Texans there also.

Aloha,

Laura

We're there! Thanks for the invite, FYI we have booked 5299

Heading into Mexico was easy. The bus had its own special lane. We stopped, the driver got off with a document. An official in a suit looked at it. He handed it to a uniformed border guard who stamped it. The suited official handed it to the driver, they shook hands and off we went. No passengers had to show ID, no luggage was inspected, no one else had to get off the bus. Total time was perhaps three minutes.

As we drove into Tijuana the lines of cars headed for the USA stretched for miles. This was about 2:00 pm on a Sunday. I have no idea what the ride back from Ensenada is like and we were glad we weren't going to find out.;)
